Is this really a thing? Or just bad luck?
I was preparing my people inside the throne and a raid dropped on me, the raider's drop pod literally killed my colony only child

Bad luck. Really bad luck.

To be honest, bad luck's a common thing in RimWorld. Good luck too, but you notice the bad more.

A few days before this I got a ressurrect serum from a quest, I am pretty sure this is the game forcing me to use it.

"What rimworld gives, rimworld takes"

Plus, they killed the other faction guy, they became hostile to me and they are my enemies now lol

Terrible luck, but it happens sometimes. I've had meteors fall onto trade caravans before too. It's a once in a full moon sort of coincidence, but it makes for a hell of a story when it occurs.

In Rimworld, luck is a weighted chance and usually not in your favor.

I do feel like the events are programmed to maximise tragedy. Drop pod raid? It will land in a child's room. Mad Animal? It will be near a child who is nature running. Planet destroying end-game event? It will happen to a planet with children on it.

I am having lots of these "bad lucks"

Center drop raids look at the current location of all your colonists and pick a weighted location roughly in the middle of that to land. So the timing was bad luck, but the landing location was basically dead-on to where it would always have landed. Drop pods don't do any damage themselves, but ya they can collapse roofs and those can damage or kill pawns nearby. Normally you have enough time between the raid warning and the pods landing to get out of there, it will show a shadow of where they are landing even through roofs. If you don't have auto-pause on, get in the habit of pausing the instant a red alert pops up and figure out if you need to immediately start moving pawns. I don't know how well this would work with a baby involved though.

Randy doesn't follow rules. He'll generate random events, and he doesn't care if they make a story of triumph or utter hopelessness. It's all drama to him.

That was sad
