Stockpile Stack Limit Needed
I think this game seriously needs a way to limit number of items in stockpiles and containers. It has been years since people wanted this. There are multiple deprecated mods but zero currently working in workshop.

What scenario would you use them for?
Not being an ass, genuine question.

I currently have one in mind. I need to put 1 simple meal for prisoner stockpile and one for each colonist in the dining room. The rest of the simple meals should stay in fridge.

Other uses could be putting some amount of ingredients near cooking stove or other workbenches.

having a couple meals in the fridge in the hospital/prison so they dont run across town to get one when needed. same for herbal meds in a shelf in same locations, rest going into the freezer to prevent spoilage.

shelves/stockpiles in or near production areas to hold sufficient numbers for crafting but the rest kept in bulk storage in range of the trade beacon/away from tantrums. probably the most common usage for me anyways, have the otherwise useless haul around what the talent needs to do their job.

satisfied storage has a slider so the guys could refill the corn shelf in the kitchen when its almost empty, not when 10 units were taken for a meal, reducing hauler's efficiency. can also keep a small stockpile of meat there to quickly make meals with them, but not keep too much that stuff spoils. not completely in the scope of the question, but not entirely unrelated either. (side note, satisfied storage mod creator says they are on it but it could be a little while as they are otherwise busy)

and just to take it a bit further, while it may not be possible, but i would also like to be able to set a shelf to hold say 2 stacks of steel, and then 1 each of plasteel, advanced components, components and gold, with configurable limits and refill points each.

Doesn't herbal meds have like a year shelf life in room temp?

I agree so much. My desire to be able to, like, put 5 of something, somewhere, comes up *constantly* - medicine, drugs, meals, whatever. Lots of reasons to want to be able to spread things around. I've never sorted out a good way.

thats not really the point though. now if you put it in a shelf in the hospital, you'll get 6 stacks and they will drop everything and run to bring 1 or 2 to top it up. yeah, there's single tile shelves, but you still get 3 stacks. and you cant set it to one stack each of each type of medicine, or even just 1 stack of a single type.

Right, haven't unlocked shelves yet and so defaulted to the modded 1x1 shelves I used before. Yeah, 3 stacks might be a tad too many.
The titular Stockpile Stack Limit (Continued) mod currently being maintained by Mlie, while not officially updated for 1.4, is still pretty usable; it was among a list of mods I found still working despite version mismatch in Rimpy. It'll do until Mlie gets to it.
