What's the best all around service weapon?
And why is it the heavy SMG?

It's not because the charge rifle exists.

yeah, but they are soo expensiv to make. for arming quickly raised infant infantry i prefer something cheaper tbh

Heavy smg beats charge rifles. Come at me.

I prefer assault rifles and charge rifles. Heavy smg's are great for short range fights, but i tend to prefer a bit more range on my weapons.

I don't need to come at you. Just sit outside your range and shoot you down. :)

Assault rifles. Generally cheaper than charge, good dps, decent range...

By the time I can make charge rifles the cost is usually irrelevant.

Early-mid game.
Heavy smgs for pawns with shooting below 15. Assault rifles for the pawns with higher shooting.

Late game:
Charge rifles.

This is why you all think kill boxes are mandatory. Fighting at max range gives the AI the advantage. Get smgs and shotguns. Build your base like a town/village and ambush them at close range. You'll land most of your shots while there still in the open then flank when they take cover.

Standing at max range taking potshots is a numbers game and they have more than you. Don't do it.

I am also a huge fan of charge rifles. If you getenough promotions with Royalty, you can just get 2 or 3 at a time trading with their settlements and in no time your whole colony is outfitted.

I do agree with the walled town base design comment though, and always use Sidearms mod so people can swap to melee when the fight gets close.
