is there a way to turn off pollution completely?
i'll be real the pollution mechanic isn't for me and i don't want it in my game. is there a way to permanently turn it off? i'll even take a mod that does it if there's no way to turn it off in the game

I'm pretty sure I've seen mods for it, but not in the base DLC, no. It's supposed to be a balancing mechanic for the mechanoids.

I think you can set it to zero when you generate the world.

oh, does pollution effect mechanoids? or maybe they create pollution and it's meant to be a deterrent from using too many of them? i'll have to look for a mod for it then

that's just to lower the amount of pollution that starts out on the map, doesn't stop it from being created :(

It doesn't turn it off as a by-product from creating mechs, but does remove it from recharging them. I think this is a pretty fair middle ground because I also think it's a bit overkill since the stack size is only 5.

I think the intention is that if you lean into mechs, you either dedicate a ridiculous amount of effort into storing them safely or eventually just have to actually deal with the pollution.

Or research the wastepack atomizer

Fair enough, I understand the concept. However, there is nothing engaging to me about having to build cold-storage facilities that take up half my livable area or rush through the mech bosses just to be able to research the atomizer. For me, I either put on a stack size mod to increase just the stack size of wastepacks to 75 or do something like this mod.

It would feel more engaging and be more of a decision of when to add more mechs if they had an increased upfront wastepack byproduct cost for construction, scaling with size of the mech, but upkeep was more demanding of power. Managing battery reserves or putting chemfuel gens online as needed to deal with mech recharge demands is more entertaining resource management, but this mod will do for now.

You can always transport pod those wastepacks to your nearest enemy ...

This is the easy answer. Just drop pod your stacks (25 per pod) on an enemy settlement. All that happens is that their tile gets more polluted. It isn't really a quick solution though, if you take those 'hold my wastepacks' quest though. They can offload a ton of em on ya, and it'll take time (and components) to launch em all off.

But its still the best method until you can ramp up and get the atomizer. Or embrace the toxic lifestyle... XD

However, polluted tiles seem to spread naturally, as I started a game with 0% pollution and eventually saw polluted tiles on the map.

I just dumped them off on the corner of the map and it barely affected me. was pretty deep in my playthrough when some vanilla expanded mechs trashed me unexpectedly. :/
