Rate biomes according to boredom and difficulty
For an example - extreme desert.
I love extreme desert because its damn hard to survive, especially as tribal, but once you settled there is absolutely nothing to do outside of your base, map is mostly dead.

Tropical rainforest - much easier to start than ED, but regardless of your work there is always soemthing going on - predators, wildfire and stuff.

What is your lovely biome and why ?
And how fast you get bored of that biome.

I'm prefer cold(er) biomes:
Boreal, tundra, but just like deserts, after time they are boring.
To spice things up, I'm usually set a mountainous colony. Insectoids giving me enough work.
Plus I'm regularly sending out caravans: raiding parties, quests
Or just exploring random sites (Set up a camp + Real Ruins mods)
Late game I'm focus on my space ship (SoS + add-ons) and on high tech research (Genetics, pawnmorpher, glitter world, etc mods).
So... Early game is good, midgame boring, late game: unlimited possibilities.
I don't like forest biomes (only when I'm aim a rancher colony).

I’d say my least favorite are cold ones. I grew up in a cold climate, and people doing stuff normally when it’s freezing breaks the immersion for me. Which is a weird thing to say about a 2D world where you can pick up an elephant but not a handgun AND a knife, but anyway.

I like desert for the challenge.

I think for me, the biome needs some animal life. Temperate forests (while bog-standard) and rainforests are probably my overall favorites, with boreal forests and arid shrublands close behind. Ice sheet and sea ice have to be the absolutely most boring biomes I can imagine.

havnt played sea ice and ice ♥♥♥♥♥, so here is my list of boredom:

1. Extreme desert - survive till food management, rest is fine. Hardest and the most inretesting start as tribal. Very-very boring once set, map is completely dead.
2. Desert - much easier survival, map +- alive. Still meh once set.
3. Tundra - work for 1-2 seasons till summver, sit at your base for the rest watching endless snowfields. Very interesting start as tribal, in total not that boring, still not that fun.
4. Scrublands/Boreal/Forests - map is alive, but gameplay is pretty easy. Meh
5. Tropical rainforest - easy start, interesting map activities. diseases as bonus.
6. Tropical swamp/Coldbog - hard to build, tons of diseases, constant predators.

Tropical forests + bog + tundra = these are maps i'am not losing interest immediately once landing struggle has been beaten and colony has been set.

i played once in temp forest, once in extreme desert, and all the rest of my playthroughs were spent in arid shrubland. i really never played in any other biomes.

My favourites are temperate and boreal forest. I live in a temperate climate and I love colder climates, and I also like forests. My current map is a (cooler) temperate mountainous one and I really love the change of the seasons, the leaves changing colour, snow appearing. Also the animals are nice and diverse, more than a boreal forest and the map is without marshes.

Is it difficult? No. But I don't play for the challenge. I play to create a little society and explore everything my modlist has to offer. Boredom? Not really. The biome is the setting my colony is in, the background so to speak. I'd love to play a rainforest map one day, but I really dislike having to deal with the constant disease and need for profylaxis.

The most difficult biomes for me would be sea ice and ice sheet. I don't enjoy the challenge and it feels a little masochistic to build a base on (floating) frozen water.
The most boring biomes would be (extreme) desert and tundra. No life, nothing going on outside the base except watching endless and empty snow fields/ sand dunes. I've tried them both but didn't enjoy it.

I really love the challenge of a Sea Ice start

I usually prefer tropical rainforest, typically don't need to worry about growing temps and has a wide variety of animals/predators and disease to keep a bit of challenge, though every biome loses most of its challenge eventually if you manage to get established, after all that's kind of the point of a settlement lol

I prefer the boreal forest in a very cold temperature band - something with a very short growing season. For me this is the best balance of challenge and interesting critters/events. If you want to grow things with a long grow time, you'll need to build greenhouses or start digging.
