3x feels like I am skipping the actual game an downgrade it to just-another-RTS. (personal opinion)
1x is too slow for my taste for normal operation and reserved just for combat (where I would love to have a 0.5x to spare me pausing every other second)
often 1 when I've enough people on the map to manage
2 when i need to speed things up but still want to get a gist of what is happening
3 when I should be sleeping since 2 hrs
I'm only on "2x speed" when my TPS has slowed down to the point that 3x and 2x are about the same, but that usually doesn't happen since I rarely play with the laggy mods that cause that. I don't think I ever intentionally hit the 2x speed button.
This is the same for me in any game that has speed controls. Speeding up time allows me to do more things in the same amount of time played, I'm just always going to pick the fastest speed as long as I can keep up with everything that is happening.
2x for general gameplay
3x for when everyone's sleeping or waiting for caravan etc.
2x speed is 3x
3x speed is 6x
4x speed is 15x (Dev mode or mod enabled)
If I use x2 it's either when I remember and use it for fun to keep my fingers occupied, or, like Astasia, TPS drops mean there's no discernible difference.
