RimWorld

RimWorld

Please consider adding steam achievements.
I know Steam Achievements aren't important to a lot of people but I and a lot of others personally really enjoy getting them. Imagine getting an achievement for eating a human for the first time. That'd be super rad. Please consider adding them.

It's been considered and the answer is no. Arbitrary outside goals go against the game design.

Arbitrary outside goals go against the game design.... of an colony-sim sandbox?

I also wonder allways when reinstall the game about the lack of achievements but I get, that this kind of carott just dont work for the certain playertype here and thus was discarded.

That's a shame. Sounds like an excuse because they didn't want to program it. :/ That's not really good reasoning. "We don't want players to do a cannibal only run to get the human meat achievement" just doesn't make sense... Especially with the ideology update that encourages you to play in an arbitrary way, people do all kinds of crazy niche stuff anyway.

I do hope they'll reconsider.

Against the game design of a "story generator" where you're meant to react to the situation that develops in your game, yes.

The game should only have one achievement for "winning"

Achievement for just for eating human meat?
Like how most people do in almost every game ? lmao
Tho I think it pretty useless and dev is very unlikely to add the achievement, I think there is a mod in the workshop that add some in-game achievement from the vanilla expanded team.

You don't understand, I absolutely cannot enjoy a game unless I have an arbitrary checklist to follow and check off, but it can't just be an arbitrary checklist that I made myself, it has to be one made by the devs otherwise what's the point if no one can see how leet my skills are when they never look at my profile and compare achievements?!

Make screenshots, how you eliminate 100 triple rocket equipped pirates, make another one when your colony goes to void due to a random tantrum, bc the solar flare made the room of your fighter too hot.
RimWorld has nothing to do with your (questionable) leet skills. LoL, it's a random event story generator.

would also make no sense since the game s massive mod designs would break all sense of achievments
npc_combine_s Jun 25, 2022 @ 8:29am
There's a mod for that

"They should put achievements in the game because I want them" isn't very good reasoning either. There doesn't need to be an excuse for not putting a thing in a game if the devs don't want it in the game. Honestly achievements seem to often be thrown into a game as a cheap gimmick to get some sales and having a dev say "We are making the game we want to make and not throwing in features just for the sake of pandering" is quite refreshing.

If there were achievements though I'd hope they'd all be things that actually take effort to gain. Like your example of a achievement for eating human flesh is exactly the type of thing that makes achievements so trivial and meaningless. It's not quite as bad as "you completed level one. Here's an achievement" but it's close. If you got an achievement called "Zoo" or something that required taming several different species and having them all in dedicated pens or something then that would be an achievement, but of course there is nothing stopping you from trying to do that anyway

Well, the Xbox version is tagged with Achievement support, so maybe they will be implemented on the Steam version:

https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/store/rimworld-console-edition/9NC6WKX645VJ

Please, developers.

They were probably implemented by the company that seems to be doing the port, not Ludeon.

And adding achievements is part of Xbox porting, because xbox doesn't allow games without achievements afaik
