Why Don't Enemy Tribes DIE OUT?
I was just attacked back to back by two full squads, a total of 38 corpses, same exact tribe. How is this enemy tribe still afloat? One of them was a councilman. I destroyed the bulk of their forces, their leader, and yet... I got a good feeling, as it has been proven in the past, that these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s will somehow comeback to conduct another assault in force.

Just... Why?! It's ♥♥♥♥ing gay.

Also, when enemy tribes request peace talks, why do they continue to attack you during that time? It doesnt make a damn lick of sense. It's retarded.
I don't know for sure, but I read on these forums that you need to kill the leader. But I also read that once you kill all the people near you, you start getting the tougher enemies. At least get the good stuff from them till you have the best for your pawns and a strong defense lol
Astasia Mar 13, 2019 @ 9:11pm
Killing the leader or destroying the bases near you doesn't do anything. They will keep raiding you with the same frequency and the same size/difficulty of units (based on wealth) until you destroy every single base they have on the planet. Once their last base is gone the faction is removed and you no longer get any interaction with it. If you destroy every faction on the planet you will still get raided by mechanoids, the average frequency of raids will never change.

Why? Because it would be boring otherwise. If you are having issues staying alive or want a break from raids, change your game difficulty, you can adjust it at any time, peaceful removes all raids.

Boring?.. I had bad luck then. 5 days before this I had an infestation, 90% of my colonists were wounded. Barely out of recovery, the raid came and then there was a second drop pod raid after I obliterated the first.

I'm on normal cassandra, RNG is doing me dirty.

Casandra gives you 6 days of peace, then 4.6 days where she can send 1 to 2 major threats at you, with a minimum spacing of 1.9 days, and she loops that forever. If you want more of a gap switch over to Phoebe, she sends 1 major threat every 16 days, which isn't necessarily easier since raids are a major source of resources and with Phoebe you can quickly find yourself under-geared for attacks. You can switch back and forth to balance it to fit your playstyle.

Switch to Randy. Idk the exact numbers, like Astasia do, but Randy did nothing (only heat waves, zzzzt, toxic fallout, etc enviro event) for 1 year. After that I got: Raid. 1day later infest. 1 day later raid. Same day black hive siege. 2 days later drop pod raid. I've spent the whole summer on the battlefield. After the summer Randy went to sleep again.
Switching the diff, can give you some breath. Especially when you don't have enough pawns (rich explorer), but want to go on a map mission.

Oh, don't worry.
There are THOUSANDS more tribals to use as cannon fodder.

I've had 233 Tribals in a single raid.
This resulted in about 180 corpses left on the battlefield after they fled.
3 days later, they attacked again!

I play on a tundra map. I have 20 days per year without penalty for caravan. Last summer during thoses days I get attacked 6-7 times. 2-3 days between raids , 6-7 times in a row...

Please Cassandra be gentle.:D

PS: I got 2 volcanic winters and 3 toxic fallouts in 6 years. I think she hates me.

Randy can definitely be... well... random. He can go from overly easy to insanely difficult. It also flops between "this seems about right" and "Jesus, there cant be that many wild pigeons in the world to go manhunter!"

Though, thats what keeps me interested and I find it to be a challenge without being overwhelming (most of the time). He did rampage my base one time by sending a raid that stopped me from harvesting, then instantly a fallout which killed off my crops since I hadnt made an indoor farm yet. I already had low food and since hunting was out, I was struggling - I focuses all new fields which then became volcanic winter so they grew slow as all get out. This was followed by only having 1 "normal" growing timeframe before winter game, meaning harvest was going to cut it close, if it happened at all. All of my pawns were breaking due to the combination of starving and all the other garbage - then, while everyone was breaking or unconscious, mech raid - game over. I want to say this was all in my first year of that play through. I tried to salvage it, but it simply was NOT happening.

That's the point: The game would be boring if none of that had happened. Therefore, the game makes sure that these events can always happen by not allowing you to exterminate all insects, wipe out all disease, etc.

Because then you get the Dwarf Fortress problem, where civilizations nearly wipe each other out, or you destroy most of their forces, and they don't have the manpower to send new sieges against you.

Would be nice if you could vassalize or annex enemy tribes.

Maybe have them pay tribute to you after delivering heavy blows on them.
Then have them revolt on your ass if they get stronger.

Just send people talented in negotiating to peace talks, release captured prisoners and they'll turn atleast neutral again at some point, giving you breathing room.

Otherwise, as said, your story teller will find other stuff to annoy you with ^^

Never make peace with the Tribals!!

The storyteller *will* send you raids, this is a Fact of Life.

It selects the raids from all hostile factions, plus mechanoids, plus infestation.
If you remove Infestation and Tribals as a possible source of raids, this does NOT reduce your number of raids but merely changes your raids into Mechs or Pirates. As mechs and pirates are much harder to handle, this is not a very good tradeoff.

There's nothing quite as satisfying as having a veritable barbarian horde bash themselves to pieces against your defenses, with your colonists only needing to attend to the followup looting and cleanup.
Whereas dealing with Mech droppods or Pirate Seiges is always a severe disruption of daily business, even when you can trivially overcome them.

Well now that I know that, so much easier to prepare. I'm going to switch it to Randy, thank you for the very informative post.
