Collapsed rocks
New to the game and have a ? . So I was mining an a mountain collapsed on poor glover killing her. I sent Her father frank to mine the collapsed rocks so I can find her body an give her a proper burial. Problem is the collapsed rocks collapsed again killing him while he was mining. Confused on how something that was already rubble collapsed a 2nd time?

More rock ceiling? Just a chunk of it fell.
I'd recommend making some supports before trying that again.

Happened to me once. We all learn things the hard way first. Then we use that in the next story. But seriously, use supports. They are life savers.

The stuff that collapses into rubble like that is "overhead mountain" so there is an entire mountain worth of rock above you and it will keep collapsing forever. Make sure you have walls or columns within 6 tiles of what you are mining or it will collapse.

And make sure it's actually connected by a roof of some kind to that support.

If there is a roof of ANY kind overhead, it will collapse if that particular tile gets more than 6 tiles away from a support of some kind, such as a wall or column. But this means you can make rooms that are 12 tiles wide because even those at the center are still 6 tiles from a wall in one direction or the other, so you could make a 12x12 room and be fine, but if you make a 13x13 room, the center tile will collapse.

Constructed roof and thin rock roof will still fall and hurt pawns under it, but won't leave a diggable tile. Overhead mountain leaves the tile where it collapses.

Always remember this mechanic, because it can cause you problems. For example, if you build an early game wood building to get by in until you dig out your mountain base or build a stone base or whatever, and you eventually decide to deconstruct that wood building, as you start taking down those walls and supports, the roof will start collapsing. So... Just keep all that in mind. Remove roofs before deconstructing the supports below them.
