Point of having slaves?
Why would I want to capture a pawn and instead of recruiting them, keep them as a slave instead? I still have to deal with their own mental stuff and drawbacks.
even my colonists seem to also build a good relationship with them the couple times I have tried it.

Not so much. Slaves have a mood boost and ignore some of the penalties from negative traits and backstories (they ignore incapabilities related to slave work), they also don't need recreation, and don't insult or start social fights with your colonists. A pawn that would make a terrible colonist can actually make a fairly competent slave. They also count less toward game scaling, having 1 slave is equal to having 0.75 colonists in terms of raid/event difficulty.

Recruiting takes too long.
Enslavery is like 3 days for 3skill social pawn.
Usually make slave when i start naked brutality, you can always dump him any time without mood debuff. Also huge mood buff via slavery allows to not bother with mood breaks on start.

One question: if I have captured a medicore guy - he has 11 research and around 10 in animals but rest of the figures is poor, with shooting/melee only 1 - does it make sense to keep him as a slave? I don't need him as a colonist, but thought about selling to caravans, but caravans don't seem to be interested in buying a slave... So... don't know what to do. I dont want to execute him, but... on the other hand, he is already few weeks in captivity ;-P

If I have no medics to skill up I just cure and sell slaves/prisoners alive (no ideology).

You can form your own caravan and sell this guy.

Slaves can't do hunting, art, social, or research jobs. If you have a lot of animals he could be useful, or they could become a cleaning/hauling bot.

Okay, good 2 know. Either I keep him as a cleaner or sell him.

Don't underestimate a good hauler and a good janitor. Saves many time for your pawns to do important jobs.
My current colony has the Isolationist meme, so recruiting is forbidden. Only way to get pawns is birthing or random guys from successful festival (allowed only once a year).
Currently I have 6 pawns and 10 slaves.
Slaves doing everything, except art, research and hunting and warden job.
Sometimes 1-2 of my colonists just idling around.

Sounds like a plan to me ;-P.

How do I make slave leave jail and just stay within colony as a slave? I think Im missing option here... or I'm selectively blind ;-P
St3amfails Sep 12, 2022 @ 5:14am
on prisoner tab is the option to enslave, just requires will to be at 0, usually pretty fast.....might need a slave collar, dont remember
failsafe Sep 12, 2022 @ 5:26am
ok, I check again
St3amfails Sep 12, 2022 @ 5:40am
if you need the slave collar in vanilla its at the tailor bench...also worth noting slaves sleep in slave beds not colonist beds. Dont arm them or they will be more likely to rebel
psychotron666420 Sep 12, 2022 @ 6:53am
Yeah slavery ignored incapable skills, so a person who won't clean will if they're a slave. They also get a massive mood buff, I've never seen a slave have a mental break personally. So you enslave people that would make ♥♥♥♥♥♥ colonists but can use them for a while bunch of tasks.
