Mechanoid corpses
I've read that you can get body parts/weapons from them e.g. scyther blades, but dissassembling them only gives me components. How does one get the blades, etc?

They have to be "downed" meaning they are on the ground "rocking" back and forth with a "!" point next to them. From there you just need to go to their medical tab and queue up remove sycther blade and hope your colonists succeed in removing it.

Theres no more getting the blades or downing mechoids, or really getting anything at all interesting from mechoids or thier ships anymore.

Scyther blades were removed from the game and mechanoids are never downed any more, they instead instantly die when incapacitated. The only thing you can do with them is disassemble them, but you get a decent amount of components and plasteel from each one now.

Damn that sucks. Why did they remove them? That was a nice way to actually get a decent reward from defending against raids.

Probably cuz he took a lot and gave it to the caravan quest system. Stuff even as crazy OP as serum to revive dead pawns back to life. One quest reward I think is the power claw or glove.

To be fair, scyther blades were a money printing operation.
Getting attacked by mechanoids, (a race of machines that are programmed to kill al humans) should not be an occasion for celebration. I remember having entire stockpiles for just silver back in previous versions. It was just silly.

Wouldn't be as bad if rimworld worked under supply and demand. Which would actually reinforce the caravan aspect of the game since rare items like scyther blades, settlements would only need so many of at a time.

And thus you'd travel to a further settlement or have to wait on a trade ship for a good price. If you flooded the nearby market. (And using a large freezer to store food until prime selling time)

I made a killing selling human leather, but really what settlement needs like 60k of the stuff?

The difference in value isn't that extreme. You get about 300 or so silver worth of stuff from dissambling a standard mechanoid, at least that's how much it would cost you to buy those materials (components and plasteel are almost always worth buying). While previously the only real thing of value from mechanoid raids were the useless blades, which were maybe a 10% drop on average and sold for like 1000s (I might be remembering that wrong?) depending on trade skill. But you also had to spend ages finishing off all the other mechanoids that were downed, or get a mod like allow tool to mass finish them off. So honestly I prefer the change and I think mechanoid raids are just about as rewarding with less of the headache, which I imagine was the goal.

They are not. Back when mechs gave you blades, you'd also get plasteel for nothing. You could dig it up so fast it was almost worthless. There's no way you are selling what you get from mechs now and actually making money.. Besides, the materials are harder to get so you keep the little you get anyway.

only thing making plasteel even a tiny bit rare is price. settlements/bulk often go it by the hundreds. And you can get 300+ plasteel per long range scanner mission.

It easy as pie to always have 100+ components since traders can have 30-60 now. Compents are so common now, mining them feels like a waste of time from ore spots mid game and up.

They do seem more common now.. but also more expencive. 40 silver now vs 25~ before.. As it should be though. Components were too easy to buy up cheap back then.
I( don't remember ever having to make components.

I did an entire playthrough this week and I think I only had to make advanced ones. Even before starting the ship I had like 50 extra regular components to throw away.

Told a guy the other day 300 was too many to be sitting on because colony wealth = worse raids. And components are easy as water to get now.

Yeh.. that was me.. And I said that components are the true currency of the game.

For me its still steel. You go through hundreds like pennies. Its hard to transport much and just like money its gone before you notice. And most things turn into it (smelt down) when you get rid of them.

Early game I usually have plasteel, but no use for it. And now That I've tasted the hp bonus of plasteel mini turret and plasteel mortar, its hard going back to steel, maybe too hard lulz,

I've also seen you talking about "buying steel" a couple times.. Something I have never done. I honestly can't remember a time where I had to/wanted to buy steel.
You might say "well, you can make components form steel" but the time it takes to craft that just makes it a fools errand.
