RNGeebus loves you.
On a more serious note:
Ignoring how you got to 3 years with only 3 pawns, I suspect there's something coded into the game when a player has ~3 pawns or less (starting conditions) that spawns them a nice lonely pawn to subjugate. i.e. the game is stuck in "give player an additional colonist" mode.
Hmm.
No he didn't ignore me. I got raids too, but they were very weak. And they tended to come when animals went manhunter (serisouly, out of 12 manhunter incidents 9 of them the raiders came at the same time and direction).
The first guy he sent me had a flake addiction, a prosthetic arm, was depressed, slowpoke, and abrasive. So naturally, I kiept him for seven days to train my warden and then I released him at a time my hunter made an animal seek revenge. I just drafted my hunter, ran him to the released prisoner. Prisoner picked up the club I left for him and dealt with the animal before me.
So I didn't have a nice lonely pawn to subjegate on the frist, raid, I had a crappy one with no ability to feed his stupid addiction. I don't keep those losers longer than a week anyways. I did continue to get weak raids. And then Randy decided to smack me with a whole lot of events which netted me 3 good pawns and a bad one (which I still needed... you know sometimes you take a bad pawn anyways).
On a different game, I got a greedy recruit. I mentioned the details. Hope she don't kill everyone
The game code to generate the event with 1 raider is separate to the game code that generates pawns.
Do you understand this very basic compartmentalization?
I get those two are seperate but you said "nice" pawn.
The 'nice' was referring to their solitude and ease of capture, not their RNG stats / traits.
I'm actually referring to my suspicion that *every* first event is a single raider. I'd have to dig to find out, or see if it was weighted, but single raider is ~90% of my first event (working from memory atm).
In Alpha 15, the first external event is 100% a lone raider. He takes a third damage as usual, but feels full pain, making it easy to incapacitate. Someone actually showed the code, it was hard coded.
Nowadays, about 95% of the time I see that as the first thing to come from off the map (and not say... a meteiorite or a crashlanded survvior), but it doesn't seem to be hard coded anymore, but it is heavily weighed.
Can you melee him? You shoudln't lose more than three pawns that way, so if you have at least 6 you should be able to get out of it.
And yes, Randy can do that. And sometimes he acts like Cassandra for a time for no good reason.
