Can hydroponics basins be safely placed outside?
Without getting damaged from rain and whatnot?

I agree. If you are going to put them outside, why not just use the soil? The speed is better, but you could plant dozens more in regular soil and go for bulk.

Not sure if they short out in rain, but if so, then they would need to have a roof. If they have to have a roof, then you need a sunlamp. If you need a sunlamp, then just use the soil in a barn with a roof and ditch the basin.

I find the soil much more useful than hydroponics. When growing corn, I can use soil. Even when growing stuff like rice, I'd rather use the extra space the soil takes up for the same ammount of rice.

This all changes if I have to do farming indoors. I still use the soil for corn for obvious reasons
Use them for stuff like heal root which you always need a supply coming in of (assuming your colony is large) as well as rice. rice grows super fast in them. When you get enough then start making some for psych leaf production but other than that i dont see a huge use for them considering they cost so much energy and mats

Obviously he is in a biome where there is not as much usable soil such as an ice sheet or desert

If you do that, it is better to use sunlamps and the whole psudo greenhouse setup

Literally nothing in this thread was helpful.

As was the usage of a resurrector mech serum to resurrect a thread that's been lying dessicated for over four years.

I use hydroponics specifically to keep the weed growing when you're playing on a winter map.. Can't get high if you ain't got no bud.

Yes. But that's nonsense unless you don't have any soil available. Extreme desert?

yep. theyre useful in deserts
