Basically, you don't need to use glitterworld meds to save someone from the plague herbal meds work well enough in my experience mind you normally it ends above 80% so kinda close. For doctors, anything around a 10 skill level works well enough but higher is better. Them having rooms with hospital beds and vital monitors help too. Mind you those are more mid to late games. If your in a situation where you don't have those then just having to doctors helps a lot since you might not want to or have the time to micro-manage the treatments so having a doctor or to will improve the chance someone treats them quickly. Also improves the odds they get food which I believe helps them heal quicker or at least lowers the odds they break and try to kill your doctor right before they start dying from the plague. Last thing and this is just for any medical problem having access to meds close to your hospital helps so much. I normally use herbal meds for most if not all medical problems so that means they need to be cold(I use a freezer mod). But if you're using regular meds then just having a stockpile nearby helps a lot with everything.
The plague can be a rough one though lost a few runs when 4 of my 5 people get sick from the plague and or infections.

I believe the time in the pod is about the same as the time of the disease. You would build one for each pawn.
Just have them stay in bed and make sure the doc is able to treat them as needed. When it comes to sickness treating only lasts for so long until they need more treatment. You can see the timer by looking at the sick pawns health screen.
High quality medicine and skilled doctors allow you to eliminate some or all bed rest, treat aging colonists with diminished immunity gain or damaged blood filtration, or just minimize the other negative effects of the disease.
I use herbal meds for all diseases but I keep a few industrial and glitter meds on hand in case the doctor gets a few very unlucky tends in a row.
Helps keep track of it so you can take remedial action if necessary.
