If you build doors disallow it to preven people from going in.
Know that insect react to weather and can destroy wall if they are indoor with unbearable temperatures
2. Forbid door
Fighting bugs in open ground is a death sentence, but they will try and run straight at you. So first tip is try to build a choke point to funnel them.
Second is because they cluster and are underground? Fire is friend. If you can, get a couple pawns to toss molotovs or incendiary into where they spawned. Even if just tossing on rock to build up the temperature. Be ready to fall back on your chokepoint fast so dont be too close.
If you can get them burning, heatstroke start, but even better if you can start spontaneous combustion of them.
Then as they come at you, make them run through fire too. If you can grenade, even better. DONT use really low rate of fire weapons like snipers. Lots of targets, weak armor, so go for pure damage.
The issue with disallowing is that pawns on mental breaks might wander in it. I've experienced it time and time again that pawns on any binge break go and consume the insect jelly near the hives and dont care whether doors or zones are forbidden. That is the real threat to your pawns. Therefore you need to wall it off. Building a door does nothing as you could just zone the area out in the first place.
