dirt ground is better for kitchen?
it doesnt get dirtier because of dirt because its already dirt so no cleaning so chance of getting food poisoning doesnt go up or down... isnt that strange?

Or don't keep your kitchen in the middle of everyone's work path , have a dedicated cook who will bring meals to "freshly cooked" storage and "frozen" to another storage without ever needing to leave the sterile room.

It takes 1 minute and with next to no resources , using steel walls campfire and butchering spot , butcher away from your cooking area.

if the rest of your base is even on cheapest concrete floors there's no way it's going to get dirty if set up properly.

Lastly if you ever decide to the the RIGHT thing and install "Common Sense" mod, then pawns clean up immediate area before cooking. If said area is a 3x3 kitchen , even if you bring in dirt, it's not a problem.

over 1000 hours and i've just always assumed that dirt floor came with an inherent chance of creating dangerous food.

Because there is a chance , it's just not very big. What does happen however that adds up is you move at -15% speed , you should be building roads and floors anywhere where work is done and cooking is the most micro intensive task in game

Dirt floors don't prevent dirt inside any more. Pawns will now track dirt onto dirt floors (even more dirt lol), in addition to the trash they'll drop. And dirt never did anything to prevent blood.

Never seen dirt tracked on dirt. I still use it for my early kitchens. Since food poisoning chance only increases past -2 cleanliness, dirt isn't any worse than sterile floor.

Just use hay for flooring. Easy to grow, doesn't require research unlike carpet.

You can put the stove itself in a 1x3 room and it should never get dirty since nobody will enter it or just put it in a big room with everything else early game and clean it. Big rooms hardly change their cleanliness value around a lot. That will also help for rec room, bedroom, dining room mood buffs if you put all in one, which is a easy to do early game. In general I'd say I hardly ever experience food poisoning in early game except if I only have terrible cooks and no nutrient paste.
Since a few patches indoor dirt can have some "dirty" stuff on it and the liquid dirts were always possible. Still shouldn't make much of a difference since your room needs to be pretty dirty for an impact. Usually just happens with rooms in the middle of paths or really small rooms.

A room needs to have -2 cleanliness to start causing food poisoning, dirt floors in addition to significantly slowing everyone down and tanking mood from ugliness, have a base uncleanliness of -1 which means you are already half way to food poison land. A few little splotches of blood, vomit, or trash will push them below -2, and those are the main sources of filth. A dirt floor should still prevent tracking dirt/sand on it, but those are minor filth and easy to counter by just building some cheap floors around your base. If your colonists aren't stepping in dirt constantly then they aren't dragging dirt around, it also means they are moving much faster and getting things done more efficiently. The difference between a colonist walking on a dirt floor and a cheap concrete/stone/wood floor isn't that far off from the difference between a colonist with normal legs and one with bionic legs.

Dirt floors are bad and have always been bad, especially in kitchens, but also everywhere else in your base.

Dang I thought food poisoning started at -1. This is good to know, thanks

Yup and out in the world also , similarly one of the biggest downsides of playing in the desert is terrible travel efficiency , but makes bases a little more defensible

I assume that's dirt being carried from the floored tiles to the unfloored.

Yes, I play Naked brutality and when you have a low pawn count you want to spend as little time cleaning as possible, I dont put floors in anything but bedrooms until I really feel like adding wealth and a more demanding cleaning job, I always have cleaning on priority 1 on my cook and cooking on 2 they clean before they cook and rarely do they need to go clean something and have it interrupt there job.

They also only need to make a single stack of food every other day so they can do anything I need them to during the day.
