Can't change roles
No idea why but for some reason I cannot seem to change the roles of people who already have them. Tried switching my farmer over to a scientist role because of the winter and they're good at researching but despite numerous role change events and messages saying a successful role change has happened but they are not getting the new role.

Not sure what could be causing this other than a mod that does unlock all roles, the magic roles from a Rim of Magic and the one role from the new VFE Pirates mod.

Any Ideas? I'm stumped.

A little update, I just tried removing my pawn's farmer role (and not adding a new one) and for whatever reason it changed the role to the scientist one like I wanted, odd.

It's a bug that happens without mods. I've already reported it and it might be changed in the next patch.

That's good to know, I run a fair few mods and I thought that one of them might be the issue. But given that I've not gotten the error log on startup or throughout all my time I wasn't sure, thanks for the info.

Role changes and especially swapping has a fair number of bugs right now, but you will probably not see most of them in a lot of the playthroughs. I've seen people saying that Ideology is essentially bug free. This one does sound like it could easily be linked to a mod, but for this specific one I tested around a lot in vanilla.

Well at least it isn't game breaking.

Still not the Rimworld quality I am used to : P The biggest game impact would be the -15 mood you suffer when not swapping roles but removing+applying. That's kinda a big one and it lats a while.

I just keep some drugs around or something else if I'm running a no drug colony to keep them happy. It's difficult but not overly hard to keep them all happy.

Yeah it might not be breaking, but it's still there and has an impact on gameplay. I always keep smokeleave around to soothe people in emergencies, as it is without danger (though making them quite bad). I think the role debuff is 10 days though, which is quite mean. It also feels like an artefact from past tries to keep people from swapping around roles to ignore their restrictions and not super needed anymore after the change to a ritual.

I am really looking forwards to the next patch.

Well for me I have a mod that removes the restrictions on what my pawns can do when they have roles since it felt rather dumb that my second greatest crafter who is my greatest farmer suddenly cannot do crafting.

It's a bit to balance it though, since it grants a really big power boost and there is no ingame way to compensate for that. If your pawns skill raises or they get bionics-> higher wealth. If your pawn because super good at what they are doing due to roles: nothing.
I never felt any restrictions with the roles after early game though, since my craft every hour of the day they are not eating, sleeping or recreating. The roles that do not have 24/7 work in the "meta" do not have dumb labour disabled too. Having a pawn at 20 crafting and 20 plant work seems pretty impossible without the "great memory" trait and even then: they can not do the work at the same time.
They did something similar with psyonics when they first released Royalty, but people did not like it. High level royals were just godlike psyonics with the social skill. Now we have psyonics who need a short time of meditation per day to be able to handle late game high difficulty raids almost alone. And again: there is no increase in wealth or anything.

I can understand not liking restrictions and everybody can mod how they like it, but it certainly can provide a power problem. For Ideology that is less true and there are other reasons.
