Hay grass vs rice for animals
People eat rice. Animals eat rice.
Is there a good reason why I need to dedicate farmland to hay grass? Does it produce faster or provide more nutrients to animals than hay grass?

But pawns don't prefer kibble over rice/corn for training so they ended up using my corn much of the time anyways. I was really jiggling between corn/hay/kibble with my pawns using my corn instead of kibble half the time.
You can put a shelf with kibble close to/on the path where go when they tame. They basically just take the closest thing possible instead of running far. For hauling animals this is a lot harder, but for others the shelf works great. Also works well with medic feeding.

Or perhaps he could separate animal trainers into their own zone that doesn't have access to anything but kibble (avoiding farm tiles and the main freezer, with meals placed in a separate freezer if he doesn't use something like Rimfridge); if they aren't also cooks I doubt they'll need access to raw food.
