Which big performance mods actually work?
Just came back after a massive hiatus. I have like three or so. Which ones do you guys use? I don't want anything with the chance of bricking/bloating my save or borking my mod functionality. I can't remember what was safe to use last time or not.

Here's what I have in the bank:
RocketMan - Performance Mod
Rim73 - Performance and Optimisations
Performance Optimizer

RocketMan and performance optimiser I have been using in 300-450 mod lists for months now and they haven't caused me any issues.

Rocketman is said to be safe. You could try Rimthreaded but it does not play nice with every mods.

Rim73 is known to cause issues with jobs not being done automatically anymore. Wardens not feeding prisoners has been noted a couple of times.

Rocketman is what I use and it works well.

I use performance optimizer along with rocket man. Never tried rim73 as it's been said to not work with other stuff and even by itself. Rimthreaded did help but that and bad hygiene caused the standing bug regularly, probably some other conflicts as well.

The absolute best way to improve performance in the game is to remove mods instead of adding them. Most performance issues are going to be caused by certain mods or combination of mods and by removing the ones you aren't strictly using in any given playthrough you can see a much more significant boost to the point where you don't need any of these "download more RAM for faster game" mods on the workshop.

That said, Dubs Performance Analyzer is the only one I would personally recommend, it has several optimization features that generally don't cause problems with other mods.

RocketMan I haven't heard anything negative about in a while, it seems to work well enough without causing major issues, I've seen a few minor errors over the months I suspect are linked to it, mostly compatibility issues, that's about it. When it was first released I saw a few instances of total save corruption but that appears to have been fixed.

Rim73 as mentioned is simply broken, multiple errors, hasn't been updated in a while last I checked. Consider it no longer compatible with the current game version.

RuntimeGC is one you might consider, I would strongly recommend against it at this point. The core feature of it is mostly redundant at this point and was designed for a very old version of the game, the vanilla GC is already excessively aggressive and doing what the mod claims to do without the help. The manual clean up interactions it allows occasionally cause serious issues in combination with other mods, the mod will wipe pawns but ignore modded functions referencing those pawns causing permanent major errors in your save. Filth cleanup can have a major effect on performance on some maps but this is a feature you can find in more specialized mods.

RimThreaded probably does the most for performance but is really only recommended in an otherwise vanilla environment. A good portion of the errors I see are related to RimThreaded being incompatible with other mods, and generally the first thing I check for when somebody posts any error is if RimThreaded is involved.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
