Disable Friendly Fire
Is there an option to disable friendly fire? I seem to remember seeing this when I first played the game, but I can't find it again now, so maybe I remembered wrong...

Cheers
Dave

There is a chance multiplier in the custom difficulty settings. You can change that in a running game.

There is a mod for preventing colonists from firing when there's a chance to hit allies. At least there was, it's a long time since I played around with it so it might be long dead but it's worth checking the workshop.

Ok, I'll take a look but maybe I should just take my shots!

Yeah new storyteller settings have options that many don't mess with but can help tweak the game to your liking.

I'm rather fond of eliminating the threat scaling by wealth... for certain playthroughs. Or tweak things like raid and quest rewards

I know you probably meant hitting your paws when they are in the way of a bullet trajectory but I should still say this: remember that if you stack up your pawns in a double line then they won't actually have a chance to hit each other. It is counted as "firing over the shoulder of the guy in front of me" or something like that.

does anybody know the max distance pawns can be away and still be safe from friendly fire?
like if you have 3 or 4 rows of shooters behind front row of melee and all pawns are touching each other

Max safe distance is one tile. A pawn cannot hit a friendly pawn standing directly adjacent to them (any of the 8 tiles, including diagonals), but any further than that is friendly fire danger zone.

ok thanks. its just that when i have pawns all touching a few rows deep I don't seem to hit pawns with friendly fire very often or at all . I will have to keep seeing if I ever hit one.

for example I recently had a bunch of bugs spawn and I had melee row in front and 3 or 4 rows of shooters behind them and only my melee on front line vs bugs took any damage and none of their damage was from friendly fire. also vs a massive scaria event with like 30-40 animals same situation. in those type of circumstances i seem to do better if all troops are bunched close fighting in a open door way. against other types of enemies its usually a bad approach to have troops so close together i do realize, but I also noticed I often take friendly fire when i need to use more spacing vs other types of enemies.

While looking into it further, it seems the friendly fire immunity zone is much larger than I had always assumed for myself, at least if the wiki is to be believed.

I do believe it might have been changed in a rather close update to now because I also clearly remember from the old days that it was only a single tile. However recent experimentation led me to think that it was now way further but I assumed it was because of a mod I had.

Been playing this for years and even the extended tutorial back then taught in the first few hours of play that you can safely shoot out 3 tiles.

I assure you that I've already hit my own toons within 3 tiles when I started playing this game. I've always assumed it was one tile of safety until very recently.

That could happen when they aim for a target on 4 tiles and miss it. The bullet could then hit an adjacent tile, which might contain one of your own people. It did happen to me many times and I thought the tutorial lied, until I noticed what was happening there. After I started using melees with shield belts in the first line, I never had an incident of friendly fire again. I think because guns (especially miniguns) were able to hit the person firing it that got changed though.

The tile safety is just about hitting someone from the "being in the way of the bullet" part of the shoot.
