Just slap your downloaded mods into the game's local mod folder and start it up.
Le edit: note for clarity, I'm suggesting using this as a way to download Steam Workshop mods for the game you've purchased, whether that be the DRM-free version off of the official website, or the version Steam has downloaded for you in the event that Steam rescinds your license to play the game you've paid for, for whatever reason. I'm not suggesting it to be used for anything else.
mostly for code review. I download mod, look at file structure or code and after I'm done I dump it. There's nothing wrong with having a mod on your hard drive and it's definitely not dangerous (if workshop file is malware, it's taken down and author is banned)
