Tame Elephants won't stay in pin
I have some tamed elephants. But they keep roaming around leaving dirt and filth. They won't stay in their pins.
How can I get them to stay OUT of the buildings so I can keep floor clean?

If you have the locked doors mod, you'll need to set your doors to disallow animals.

Elephants aren't pen animals, if you want them to stay out of your base you need to create an area and assign them to it.

How do I do that? Since I can't make a pen to house them; do I just wall them up into an area?

In Architect, go to the Zone menu. There are options for Expand Allowed Area and Clear Allowed Area, which will let you create and modify Areas. Pawns and non-pen animals can be assigned to an Area, in the Schedule tab for pawns and the Animals tab for animals. Doing this will prevent them from interacting with anything outside of those areas and will, most of the time, force them to only move within the area (the exception being, they are allowed to cross into a disallowed area if they need to do so to get to someplace else that they're allowed to go)

create a new area, then inverse it. Next use clear allowed area to keep the elephants out of the structures and away from your food.
