Pawns are also smarter now about hunting exploding animals and they'll stand off from downed boomers and keep shooting until they explode.
But tbh, it's way simpler to just release them.
Alternatively, when I attack tribal enemy bases, I take a psychic animal pulser and at least 5 boomalopes or 10 boomrats. I then build a shelter for my pawns without a door, but with enough sleeping room and food, close it up, then activate the pulser, for the animals to attack the tribals. Even if some tribals survive, they're generally slowed from being wounded/burnt.
