Do you play with BOTH the Royalty and Ideology DLC active?
I just picked up Ideology and wondering if I should disable Royalty for the next run if it makes it too complex early on? I have almost 500 hours so I'm not completely new I'm just slow and I find the Royalty already starts too soon. I play with 2 people and their 2 housekeeper cats. I like to just take my time and I find that first "join the empire quest" comes way too soon but I do enjoy their quests and rewards later once I have more people. Is it possible to start a game with vanilla and ideology and then turn on the royalty later within the same game?

For activating Royalty after the start:
You will get everything but the empire faction spawning. If you wanna spawn them in, you can use stuff like

You don't really have to face any of the Royalty content except the mech clusters if you don't want to handle the royal stuff. It is an entirely optional power boost. If you just take in the first royal and kill the chasing animal, you could just go to the quest menu and disable honour gain from quests. Then it's just optional bionics/weapons/quests which you can all ignore.

If Royalty overwhelmed you a bit, you should be advised to take it slow with Ideology. It adds far more complex stuff and can do that in the first few days of the colony. Maybe try something super low in impact and convert all people to your ideology before recruiting them.

I always play with both and don't see a reason not to. If you disable Royalty you are still going to get quests just as early with similar rewards, if it's the honor you don't want you can disable getting honor from the quests in your quest settings within game. Royalty is just adding variety here rather than complexity. Other mechanics like the psycasts and titles are totally optional and easily avoided.

Ah, there's where we differ... I prefer to stick with Psycasts ;)
I guess it depends somewhat on the type of chosen Ideology too. Psycasting can complement the Archo-nexus ideology quite well.

You could always run with rimworld of magic and turn off the magic creature events. play the whole thing off like psycast abilities you can research and just ignore empire quests until your RP decides it's a good time.
