Traders can not steal from you, this feature does not exist.

Only on Steam do people tell other people that the problem they're having isn't real.

Are you using hospitality or something that changes visitor AI? That's something that shouldn't happen in Vanilla. If you sell an animal or prisoner they are still considered your responsibility until they leave the map and they can eat your food if they get hungry, or if you rescue a NPC and it becomes a guest it can sometimes eat your food, those should be the only situations NPCs will eat your food. In vanilla a trade caravan will normally starve to death if trapped on your map in the middle of your food stockpile.

I don't use hospitality and I haven't seen this happen before in the 9 in-game years of this playthrough. I've got a mountain bunker and they just walked through half the bunker and to the food supply. I even tried forbidding doors in their way but it didn't matter.

I had this issue with Android Tiers mod. Android trade caravan came and decided to eat my canned food.

Weird. I don't have Android Tiers.

If traders take something from you, they will always pay. Have you set guest zones to purchase items? They might be purchasing items in the preset "sale" zone. Idk if this is in vanilla, I play with hospitality.

That's definitely not Vanilla.

Definitely a mod issue. AI traders never steal in vanilla. If they don't leave, they'll starve to death once they run out of their own food.

Since it is not Hospitality, I do not know what mod could possibly cause this though.

I think one of the vanilla expanded mods does something like that. Something like visitors can be thieves?

are you sure they stealed your food? The Vanilla Ai doesnt steal your food unless is an enemy faction, neutral and allies won't; what the AI does, is look for tables (cause eating without a table is a war crime) so if may be possible that they traveled trought your freezer without taking anything, get in a table, and eat a survival pack of their own.

Maybe you should specify which mods you are using? Or give other useful info. So far you only claimed something happened that cannot happen in the normal game, so what do you expect us to do?

Oh, sure, here's my nearly 300+ strong modlist. Go nuts.

Want a list of the mods in that list I currently have deactivated?

I posted this to see if anybody else had issues with the AI eating their food as if it's theirs, not to see if anybody had any useless comments telling me what I just witnessed was a figment of my imagination.

It wasn't a "stealing event" or anything like that, they just ate the survival meals as if they belonged to them.

So, funnily enough, I had the same issue that you did yesterday. Happened after a few of the trade caravan members had mental breaks, making most of the caravan just.... stay there. Most of them left, but two of them were still broken and wandering when the caravan eventually left. After they snapped out of it, having no food, they walked over and ate out of my fridge like they owned it, and then tried to leave. Worth the -100 for capturing one and beating the other down (and then capturing).

So, no, you are not alone, but I am assuming its one of my (our) mods causing it. Unfortunately, this is the first time I've had several dementia-ridden traders come to my base, even back when I did vanilla, so I just thought it was vanilla until others have said otherwise.

I understand that you are frustrated that the AI did not behave as expected, but your initial post read as though it were asking for assistance - albeit with an exasperated tone.

You had a couple people proposing possible causes from relatively popular mods, and both of those were rejected. Which, fine, you're not using those mods - no biggie.

But rather than having 50 people go through the same steps, and you saying no 50 times, including the modlist would have at least narrowed down the culprits - which is why it was requested.

Doesn't really feel like you actually wanted help, and I suppose that's fair - as you never actually requested any.
So to answer your question: I don't know.
