Any way to stop rats from running away?
Lets say, hypothetically, i bred an army of 800 rats that could defend against practically anything. the issue being that while they'll gladly attack at my colony, if i were to take them to a non-colony tile, they just run away and refuse to attack anything. Is there a reason for this?

better to get animals with attack training. Self Defense is what a rat does, deadly fetch is what a dog can do. (Guard training specifically)

the kicker is that rats breed ridiculously quickly, and i need to constantly kill them so my game doesnt lag. i can easily run out of larger animals, but rodents are forever

Hehe, rodents are forever. I totally pictured a jewelry store ad when I read that. Could be the next big thing in the Rimworlds for special occasions!

it seems im going to need to create a special black ops squad of rats to train, becaus i dont even train my rats tame-ability; theres just too many of them

Yup, you need to train them with this mod. I doubt there is another solution though (but on the other hand, there are so many mods out there, i don't know every mod ^^)

it just makes me wonder, why are they fearless (mostly, they still run away from projectiles) at my colony, but when i go to attack something they just run away

if you close down your core colony you could use animal pulsers or the manhunter psy cast.
The manhunter Psy also works through walls as long as the animals are in the area of effect.
I've been tinkering on some setup that lets me just throw crazied animals at the enemies as soon as they breach the outer walls
