What I do is just constantly call for traders using the comms panel so that there is a constant stream of traders coming to my outpost. I have a in game reminder set (reminder mod) and call a new trader every 24 hours in game.
It just means things are "more expensive" because of how much gifting I have to do to keep my reputation up and also that I had to give away a lot of stuff to make everyone who could be my ally into my ally (so that I can call them).
So one of the technologies I tend to rush for is Electricity, and set up power generation and and https://www.rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Electric_smelter . That way, I can break down metal-based weapons, tainted / tattered / unwanted armour, as well as the Steel Slag Chunks.
After that, I'm going for Microelectronics to get a Hi-Tech Research Bench, and Machining, to aim for a https://www.rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Long-range_mineral_scanner .
Alternately, if I'm not wanting to leave home on caravan trips, or I simply don't have much carrying capacity, then https://www.rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Ground-penetrating_scanner + https://www.rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Deep_drill is a pretty common way folks deal with getting more steel once their map has been mined out.
As dnrob7 has mentioned, if you have the Royalty expansion and have at least one pawn at either Acolyte or Knight/Dame (or better) then they could use their Permit Point to call for a supply drop of 250 Steel. https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Titles#Permits

I guess a pertinent question to ask here would be: why specifically do you feel a sudden urgent need for ten-thousand Steel?

There's a couple mods I can see which effectively increases steel production from mining - but the nearest thing I can see which matches what you're looking for would be [KV] Call Trade Ships. But you'd still need steel to make the Comms Console, Orbital Trade Beacon, etc first.

Sweet, thanks for circling back to update your own thread once you found a solution.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I was interested in this mod as well once you described it.
Also, that link you gave is for an older version of the mod, make sure you use the updated 1.3 version (which is linked in that mod's description) if you aren't running an old version of the game.
Yeah sorry for the deprecated version I just found it and forgot to update here so I thought it'd be nice to at least give the name if not the appropriate version.
Be warned things you ask for in the mod are expensive af since you're requesting a caravan to walk all the way to your doorstep to deliver an insane amount of goods... but it's balanced tho
Yah, I installed it a few minutes ago and have just made my request for advanced components. I'm also VERY far from most other factions....because I didn't think about trade or caravans when I was picking my starting spot. They are costing me almost 200 silver a piece. Way more than normal with my negotiation/social and allied discounts.
Seems reasonable to me though, given how far away the faction is.
