how to combat siege on tribal?

I got very far in my tribal game but my research is so incredibly slow by the time sieges happened I was totally screwed. Any tips?

Quickest way to stop a siege is to kill the raiders building the mortars before the mortars finish. Then they can't mortar-bomb your base. At that point the raiders will switch to "normal raid" mode and are therefore still a problem, but they're a problem that's not firing artillery at you.

So you could buy or steal some long-range weapons someplace.

You can hide under a mountain and wait it out so the siegers decide to rush you, but this method most likely will ruin your base unless it's under a mountain as well. Thick mountain roof makes mortar shells basically not explode
