They won't build the floor
Why that ? It's like that for a real long time now and still no progress.
Thx

You are trying to build sandstone tile when you don't have any sandstone blocks. You need to first research stonecutting, then build a stone cutting bench, then add a bill to that bench telling them to craft sandstone blocks, then they will grab some sandstone chunks and convert it to blocks. After that, they can build your floor.

Oh ! I first tried with Limestone floor and same, it didn't work despite the fact that I have limestone tiles. But now I guess I needed limestone blocks instead. Thanks, will do as suggested.

On a related note, you can deconstruct the 'ruins' you see on the map to get stone blocks before you research stonecutting

Well, I opted for a wooden floor :-)

unless Tundra or Ice sheet wooden floors are great, they dont burn so a row of 3 wide can stop fires , they are cheap , have a neutral beauty , so yeah slap down that wood

In fact I didn't research stonecutting but hydroponics ...
So a wooden floor anyway. But I like it, looks fantastic !

hint to hydroponics. since you probally going to use them indoors with a Sun Lamp , hook the sunlamp up to its own 1-2 Solar panel grid , this way its only powered during the day , plants will "Rest" at night and not grow so its a waste to have 1600 !!! Watt run at night. and to manually turn it off and on every evening/morning is too much of a hussle.

But make sure the hydroponics them self are linked in your main grid with power 24// or your plants die faster than your colonists can look.

I prefer concrete.
Wooden flooring will give my nudists splinters and that's just another cause for a psychotic break I can do without ;)

but concrete costs valuable steel and is counted as "UGLY" and will sour the mood of your pawns.

Steel isn't valuable to me. There's always tons of it either above or below ground and what I can't mine, I can trade for, so steel is never in short supply.
I use concrete as a fireproofing perimeter around my structures and as pathways through the open base. I don't use it for flooring my rooms. Out in the open, the ugliness factor isn't as much of an issue as it is in an enclosed space.
And nudists with splinters... gives me the shivers ;)

Wooden floors look very nice to be me, compared to the granite floors I took so much time building. The odd thing is wooden floors add nothing to the beauty factor of a space, while any type of stone floor does. Odd, but true.

My issue is that sandstone tiles are costing me steel to build

this is a very old post and all the info in it is wrong now to
Cavilier102 Jun 3, 2017 @ 8:58pm
well thats what i get for searching sandstone tile when sleepy
dont use wooden floors wait for stone , fires really fast spread on wood

not to say floors are no that essencial early on due for few days you dont have to worry about "mood" and when you do

you should already have stone floor(reserch it first)
