Put the table closer to where the pawns pick up their food.

Add chairs of some kind.
Pawns will only go so far to sit at a table, have a few scattered in areas they frequent to mitigate that. Note that hunters and other pawns that go a far distance from the base will still have that debuff now and then.

When pawns are hungry they'll eat if they have a meal available. If there is no table around they will eat without one. If you have your pawns running around the map hauling, mining, cutting trees etc. and they get hungry they will eat without running back to their room or the dining hall to eat.

There are a couple of ways to solve that. You can make them have shorter workhours so that they have free time every 4h or so. So the chance is higher that they are around when hungry. Not very efficient if its just about the table thing. Otherwise good for rec.

You could have them not run around the whole map. If you want for example mine something far away just have your miner access the area where the mining should take place. When he's finished let everybody haul all the iron and be done with it. That way your pawns will not run all over the map for 1 stack of iron. All that running makes hungry.

You could also place tables and stools around those spots where your pawns work for a longer time, like a mine (I just stay with that example, ok?). They wont get a buff for a nice room ofc but also no debuff for eating without a table.

Lastly, I would not recommend putting tables into pawns rooms. While it seems a logical thing to do what actually happens is that random people come into the pawns room to have a meal. That spreads dirt and wakes up sleeping people. You dont want a caravan for example to rush your rooms for a meal with 3 muffalos in tow.

Give it some time - It could just be that the last time they ate a meal the table wasn't there.

Also - You have chairs, yes? They need those to it in while eating at the table.

^-- This.

Though, making sure the table is unflagged as a Meeting Spot will help with certain things. Even so, it's pretty darn annoying for Vistors/Caravaners to rush to the nearest bedrooms to eat... Kind of amusing, though. :)

Imaging waking up and having 3 muffalos in your bedroom and some grinning trader munching on a hand full of pemmican "Did we wake you, mate?". LoL

The "ate without table" moodlet does stick for a while after the actual eating without table.

Another "solution" is nutrient paste, which pawns will collect from the dispenser when they're hungry, meaning they won't carry meals around with them. Though, of course, that has its own negative moodlet unless you have the ideoligion precept for nutrient paste, or if the pawn is Ascetic.

I tend to always put tables in my bedrooms eventually, just make sure they are right near the door, and have the bed far enough way to not get disturbed sleep. You can build other tables near the trader hangout location to keep them from running into your base to eat, or just keep their hangout location far enough away from your tables. Having tables all around your base helps a lot with avoiding ate without a table, and having them in bedrooms which you want impressive anyway keeps those impressive dining room buffs high. If your base is all floored you don't need to worry about tracking dirt either.

Other other solution, if you use mods (and most players of this game do).

Add the "No Carried Food" mod to your game. That way, when they get hungry, pawns won't have a meal on them, so they'll have to go back to base to get one. Then just make sure there's a dining table close to the kitchen (or wherever you stash finished meals).

Rummaging around in your cabinets...

"You're outta scotch, mate. And, pick up some "Cheese Wiz," too."
