turrets aren't working at all
they are powered and not on hold fire but they just don't do anything

That sounds like a problem. Should probably get it checked out.

Please give us more details - what is your mod list - in most cases problems with game stem from mod incompatibilities or bugs in mods. Are turrets freshly built? Are they turned on? What was the situation and what you expected to happen?

probably need to reload them. the turrets that is. they use ammo. Like steel or uranium.

This is probably the most important question. For instance, if you expect them to fire upon hunting predators... they don't.

ok turns out that the turrets just dont shoot at the mechanoid from the ancient danger, went into dev mode forced a raid and the turrets shot at the raiders, ill have to do the ancient danger differently i guess
Turrets do shoot at mechanoids, always have and always will. Unless a smoke bomb went off in there or some other specific anti-turret system the turrets will engage unless out of ammo or broken by a mod.

i think he needs to activate the ancient danger before they count as hostile. it sounds like he dev mode'd some turrets into an unopened AD.

nope i set them up outside and they did nothing

This is correct

Ancient danger works a bit different, compared to standard threats. As long as those Mechs, even if they are already triggered are not attacking your colony, your turrets will not go for them.

Just set up a colonist to shoot/trigger them and the turrets should work fine
