Then change the settings and expand it. At least that's vanilla behaviour, if it groups any other way then it's from some mod.
If you are asking how to create a separate grow zone next to an existing one, drag out the new one at least one block away, make sure it's formed and selected, then drag again to expand it to where you want it to go. The game doesn't merge zones, but sometimes if you try to create a new one that is touching an existing one it expands that zone instead, so it's easiest to just make sure they aren't touching when they are created.
This also applies to storage zones.
If you have a zone selected already and try to create a new zone next to it (not overlapping), it will expand the already selected zone instead of making a new zone. Since the last zone you created is always selected by default this means when creating multiple zones in a row you have to lay them out like I mentioned or you have to cancel out of the build menu to deselect the previous placed zone and then open the build menu again to place the next one.
