Dead bodies rotting super quickly?
I started up a new game with a bunch of mods, haven't played in awhile. Got rid of the mods that aren't working.

Maneaters hit my traps and die, and almost immediately rot. I notice that human bodies seem to be rotting very quickly, as well. Any ideas? I've looked through my mods , and I don't see anything that could possibly affect it.

That is a vanilla feature which must be new since you last played, though it has been in for a while.

Basically, to stop the maneater event from being a mostly positive event, some new lore was added. Now the reason they are all maneaters is they contracted a disease. When they die there is a high chance they will start rotting immediately due to that disease.

Wouldn't explain it for humans, but if you are getting this with spawned manhunter animals, it's Scaria which instantly rots anything infected with it when they die like 60% of the time or so.

Otherwise, do you have a Helixien on the map somewhere? It's an animal in Alpha Animals that quickly rots any bodies it is near.

Maybe it is just animals! I was just noticing the name "scaria", and literally just read the rot thing. Damn. I did enjoy the extra meat. :P Thanks for the replies.

Note that scaria is only on creatures that enter the map as manhunters (or are on the map as manhunters, when going to an exploration site). Animals that go manhunter due to damage, failed taming, or psychic stuff won't have scaria.

Scaria rot chance can also be adjusted in the custom difficulty section of your storyteller tab if you aren't a fan of it or want to make it harsher.
