3. You can install mod Backstories+ which adds many new backstories and has an undocumented feature of disabling unique ones. I think mod NamesGalore, that adds more names, did the same thing. There probably is no easier way.
Funny because I've stopped using these mods because of this. I kinda like unique characters.
If so, rename PeteyMcRepeaterson to something that is more suitable for you. :-)
Part of the game is developing stories. If your pawn keeps expressing certain attributes, it makes perfect sense they'd start being referred to by a different name.

There are a few kickstarter backers with backstories that mean they are always decent or bad at certain things, but for the most part most of the characters are just random characters that will be different every time you see them.
