Shooting mortar shells on the ground
Is there a way to shoot mortar shells or anything like that in the ground with just normal firearms?

If a colonist is drafted you can select their weapon at the bottom, entering a "forced target" like command once you click on something else. This allows you to shoot walls, a specific person, or things like mortar shells and landmines.

yes but very difficult and generally not worth it. You are much better off with an incindary launcher and even then, still rng.

Not without a mod, no. And it totally breaks realism; who carries around a gun with a bore of 120mm or so..? For other "man-portable" weapons the advice you got here, however, is good.

It's interesting to see the multiple interpretations of this question - one being "there are mortar shells on the ground, can I hit them by firing my handgun towards them?",
and the other being "can I fit these mortar shells into a handgun, to fire them at my foes without having first crafted a mortar launcher which is the normal method for firing these projectiles?"
