eliminate a faction?
is it possible to wipe out a faction? I will admit I never really got around to launching a attack on a faction base so I don't know if it even gets destroyed but I wondered

You can kill off the other factions but not all of them. Mechanoids will exist and will raid even if all other factions are destroyed and/or pacified.

You cannot. You can destroy every settlement of a faction and get a note that says they're gone, but that faction is still a valid target for events like raids.

If a faction is defeated (by wiping out all their bases) they can no longer raid you. If you defeat all normal hostile factions then you will only get mechanoid raids, even if mechanoid raids aren't normally valid, like within the first 45 days of a save. Mechanoids still have a minimum raid value though so if you keep your colony at very low wealth raids will fail. If you disable mechanoids somehow and defeat all other hostile factions then any triggered raids will fail.

Only if that faction has holdings on the map, base game insects cannot be destroyed nor can Alpha Animal's Black Hive.

On Mechanoid raids: using KV Faction Control mod you can disable hidden mech faction that will raid you after every other source of danger is destroyed.

I believe everyone else in the chat to be correct, and that this information is categorically incorrect given the official documentation specifically states that they will no longer be able to mount attacks on you.
