Mining outpost
Hi,

How do you create mining colonies?

I was thinking of starting a second colony, which I would leave over the winter and return to after the winter. I would send the extracted raw materials to the main base.

Is it possible to set the automatic sending of the caravan? For example, every 15 days a caravan with food goes to the colony.

When leaving for the winter, will the colony be completely destroyed or will a few repairs be enough to reuse?

After leaving completely (I read that there is an "option" in the game), an icon of an abandoned colony will appear on the map. Is it possible to "hide" the icon in some way, but at the same time left the tile blocked so that it could not be reoccupied?

I read about the modification of Set Up Camp, but it creates temporary maps and it sounds a bit like a "scam" to me.

Thank you :)

Ahoj,

Jakým způsobem vytváříte těžební kolonie?

Uvažoval jsem nad založením druhé kolonie, kterou bych přes zimu opustil a po zimě se do ní zase vrátit. Vytěžené suroviny bych posílal do hlavní základny.

Dá se nějak nastavit automatické odesílání karavany? Například každých 15 dní vyrazí karavana s jídlem do kolonie.

1. To create a mining outpost you just have to create a second colony. Move your caravan on a tile you want to occupy and press the "Settle" button at the bottom. A new map will be generated. Make sure that you have max colony limit set to higher than 1 in the game settings, I think it defaults to 1.
2. You cannot automate sendings of caravans.
3. The colony will not be destroyed unless a raid happens while there is nobody to defend it
4. Nope

Use deep drilling, it takes a while to run out of all mineable resources.

Deep drilling never runs out, it provides infinite (albeit in small and time inefficient amounts) resources.

Otherwise, a long range mineral scanner is a better choice and is more suited to the mining outpost that the OP wants, once an ore deposit has been found, a caravan can be set up to head to the site, mine the limited ore, then return.

The site generates a sub-map, like a caravan encounter, that contains only the ore specified.

These sites are deleted after a while, and so don’t clutter the map, and once deleted a new site can generate in its position.

Only downside is that it requires a researcher to babysit the scanner. But late game researchers have nothing better to do.

^ This is a good idea, if you're trying to get stuff from mining specifically. :-)

Edit: I'd never used https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Long-range_mineral_scanner before, but this sounds pretty awesome tbh ^_^

With a long-range scanner, after I send the caravan, do I have to take care of their settlement until it has finished mining? So like I have "two settlements"? Or mining running "in the background"?

U skeneru s dlouhým dosahem po vypravení karavany se musím starat i o jejich osadu dokud nedokončí těžbu? Tedy jako kdybych měl "dvě osady"? Nebo těžba běží "na pozadí"?

Yes, when the long range scanner finds a deposit, it creates a "quest" and you have 30 days to get to the resource, which will be on the world map not too far from your base.

Then you send a caravan over there, and when you reach it it creates a small, temporary map, and you have 10 days to collect all the material and leave. (Which is plenty of time. Depending on the amount of miners you take with you and the type of resource you're mining, you can generally be out of there in 1-3 days.)
There may be enemies at the site (a small raid, or a number of manhunting animals) but usually the coast is clear and you can mine the stuff and head home without issues.

You can select which resource the scanner will search for, by the way, and a deposit of that resource will generally be the only thing of value at the site.
