Heh... I wasn't aware of that and even so it wouldn't turn me off.
You raise a good point though about streamers in general. Some of them can be notoriously insecure and defensive. One ought to bear that in mind when criticising any of them and do so with tact. Better to say nothing at all ;)

Yeah it’s hard enough to produce content that’s both entertaining and technically sophisticated without people commenting that you should have min-maxed thirty six other things. Imagine making a music video
and having comments about the lighting or whatever.
I personally like Francis John. He has a good understanding of the game and is entertaining, but not a perfect player. I like that he sometimes makes mistakes and finds ways to overcome them. For me personally, I find it far more entertaining, and educational, to see someone stumble and recover, then to never see them stumble at all.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Decoherent. I watch him and Samuel Streamer all the time. Total time waster is good as well as long as he doesn’t get frustrated about something. I find once he gets frustrated he spends a lot of time being whiny and complaining about it.
Thet is also ok but I found that there would be a lot of nothing going on for long stretches, which would lead to me skipping the rest of the video.

I used to watch Decoherent a lot and really enjoyed the Desert series. He’s a chill streamer. But it seems like other than the mod pack his series are very similar (especially the animal stuff).
Ambiguousamphibian is a fun stream to watch though he doesnt play rimworld every day but he sure plays a ton of it.
he's actually doing a charity stream atm if anyones wants to help texas childrens hospital out

5. Best documentary-style: Pete Complete
(no mods) (edited)
Pete Complete uses a “detached narrator” perspective and overdubs gameplay with narration rather than narrating “live" for a documentary style of stream. Not as masterful as the previous four, but very good, fun, and relaxing streams.
I know I am late but Pete uses couple of small mods. And yes Pete's series are nice and relaxing. Safe oasis from all those loud, screaming horde of content creators on YT. He also has playthroughs for other game.

Even though he is a variety gamer Vinesauce is who sold me on this game. It just looked like he was having so much fun. He will never approach 70% rimworld content he has been doing this for way too long and played sooooo many games.

4. Best instructor: Rhadamant
(no mods / thematic mods) (unedited)
Rhadamant has a complete understanding of the mechanics and provides thorough explanations of them for top-level play. He has YT only streams, like Frost and Fire, a Kenshi-style mod he made, and Twitch streams. His VE Vikings stream just finished, and it’s quite good. Some of his streams use the Twitch toolkit, which I don’t like, but he’s got a lot of series that don’t. Replies to YT comments if you have questions.

I checked on these. Rhadamant uses mods in his games. Possibly just for interface. But still not truly vanilla mod free.

Pete Complete is probably a better way to go. It seems he only uses the mod for character creation. Which just allows you to setup your character stats and qualities. But doesn't actually add anything to the game. So once the game starts he does seem to play with no mods at all.

I have a series called "Philosopher King" which I use absolutely no mods, FYI.

“Best” really depends on what you’re looking for. Here are my favs (low mods = mods with no extreme effects on the gameplay; no mods = none or just UI stuff), presented in the order that I'd watch them if they popped up in my feed at the same time.

1. Best overall storytelling: Crusha of Mans/Xwynns (Xavier’s former channel)
(low mods/thematic mods only) (edited)
By far the best production quality and storytelling, along with creative tactics and a willingness to get himself into trouble. 500% Ice Sheet (Crusha) and Extreme Jawas (Xwynns) are GoT (early years) dramatic. Doesn’t seem like he’s streaming much these days, unfortunately.

2. Best exploration of mechanics: Francis John
(low mods) (edited)
Great exploration and explanation of the mechanics. In his series Tribal Wizards and 395 Pawns (Not sure if that’s the name, it’s his latest) he puts himself in positions where he has to reevaluate the mechanics and use them in new and creative ways. Dramatic gameplay, solid explanations of mechanics, also funny.

3. Best overall player: Adam vs. Everything
(low mods / no mods) (unedited)
I can’t recommend this channel enough. Adam vs. Everything is a Twitch streamer who plays no-pause challenges and streams long-form. He’s got a losing is fun micro-colony (50x50) series, a 500% Wealth Independent 20 year run, and the latest series is a 500% no pause, no mods. Going to have a 500% no-pause, all melee up next. Really amazing talent, very chill stream presence, and always replies to YT comments.

On Hiatus while he collaborates with the Long War 2 devs to make a groundbreaking space game. Very excited for when it comes out, but for things are in quiet development.
2. Best exploration of mechanics: Francis John
(low mods) (edited)
The best overall IMO. He stretches his own skills, his pawns, and the game mechanics to their limits and beyond. His narration is an emotional rollercoaster of incompetent oversights and genius recoveries. His tutorials are very in depth where others just tell you what's on the wiki.
3. Best overall player: Adam vs. Everything
(low mods / no mods) (unedited)
500% no pause for 20 in game years, livestreamed, is impressive. There was no cheating or editing there.
4. Best instructor: Rhadamant

Pretty great, but his current mod selection doesn't appeal to me at the moment. When I'm in the mood for tolkienesqe fantasy, I watch Kruggsmash play Dwarf Fortress.
