proper mod load order guides vs rimpy
ok so this is my story with mods and proper mod load order guides and rimpy.
ok so i tried all of the mod load order guides and sorted my mods according to them.
every time i get errors on the 1st day of playing the game (this is real life days not in game days) then i came across rimpy now i heard people say rimpy is horrid at sorting mods
and i also heard people say it works.

well i tried it what else was there for me to do the proper load order guides where still
giving error i tried everything.
so i downloaded the rimpy data base off steam as well as the mod manger itself
dragged over all my mods clicked sort then save started up the game played it.
well i had a game that lasted a full week (real life week not in game week)
till my donkey went mad and killed everyone.

so for me rimpy works now i know some people these proper load orders with no error.
i think people should do what works for them and not what other people say is better.
for me rimpy works so i keep using it if proper load order guide for you work keep using it.

For a real answer: rimpy and other mod sorting tools (say, xEdit and LOOT for bethsoft things based on the Morrowind Engine) try their best to avoid conflicts and sort mods based on what the mod author states. This can be things like "load before x mod" or "Always load last" or "Requires X mod to function."

In addition to that, there is usually some community driven part of the tool that helps with conflicts that the mod author may not see/care to test. This community driven part usually happens automatically as people use the tool, and make changes to it.

The problem that most people describe is that the community driven part of the tool is constantly out of date, and is always playing catch up. When a mod is first released, the only information the tool will have to go off of is what the author says, which may or may not be correct.

It also can't handle certain scenarios where either answer is correct. e.g.: If I have two mods changing the same texture, just with slightly different results, technically either one being loaded first won't matter, but you won't see the other one being active. In that way, it's all down to what the player wants, and nothing that the tool can do will be "correct"

On the flipside, load order guides are only good if they are kept up to date with the mods that they use and any new patches that come out. If the guide gets out of date (or doesn't include a now needed patch) it is also worthless to the reader.

tl;dr: neither is perfect, everyone needs to be able to troubleshoot when you modify a game. Or be capable of complaining on the forums. Either or.

Very few mods need any sorting so RimPy works pretty great, RimWorld isn't restricted to just a single pass on load so many mods that refer to other mods work just fine no matter where on the list those mods are (specifically a mod can tell RimWorld to wait until everything else loads before making a check). RimPy knows the positioning of the most common library/prerequisite mods, and nearly everything else just goes anywhere below them without issue. The mods it doesn't recognize it tells you about rather than just placing them randomly and letting you find out it's wrong with an error, and if you have just downloaded a brand new patch for X mod that's not in the database yet you can usually determine yourself that it goes below X on your list.

yeah i know neither is perfect like nothing perfect tho rimpy seems to better in my case.
i do like just clicking sort and let rimpy take effect just run it.
tho i think rimpy is a life saver for me tried so many guides was gonna give up and
just play vanilla.
any way both of you comments are really good i assume both of you are modders or know alot about mods tho astasia is a modder tho i swear ive seen mods made by s/he
allso did not know that that very few mods need any sorting as astasia said
