Maybe you are right. But that's why I think its good to show the good as well, so that people are not scared to ask for help from the steam support section. Some people will surprise you. Its also good to see proof of that the steam support you contact for these things at times actually will help us out. I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out.

If so, it doesn't seem like it's fitting pheanox's modus operandi, as pheanox is (as far as I have observed) very good at both leaving the messages they moderate without deleting or editing them, and leave a note in the discussion mentioning who was banned, how long, and for what violation.
This makes me think it's probably a global moderator, and the fact that Steam stepped in I feel lends credence to that line of thinking, as I'm pretty sure there's nothing stopping a game's individual discussion section to have additional rules participants need to follow, and those rules being actively moderated. Of course it could be pheanox, and as the OP is formulated it seems to heavily imply such. That's why I'd like to see a clarification on that point.
Oh I have no idea who it was to be honest. The moderator who banned me only messaged me with the ban and the exact quote and "why" (what I did is not even breaking any the rules as far as I have read, it was in any way not bannable) and when I replied he ignored me. Sometimes you can not see the name of the moderator unless they reply to you, which he/she did not. Which is one large reason I went to steam support.
The thread you are referring to is NOT the thread that gave me the ban however. I was having a discussion at that time in that thread, while also having a discussion in a thread in the workshop.
I got banned exactly for,
-"Please refrain from attempting to bait users into non-constructive arguments."
This in itself is an odd reason since I see no mention of this in the rule section. But even so that's not even what I did.
But, a bit of advice for the OP - It is not a good idea to discuss moderator actions/disciplinary measures in the forum where the actions took place. It really doesn't accomplish very much unless there's a truly abusive issue. And, in that case, it's better to have that discussion with Steam Support.
Though, discussion of Steam Forum rules "in general" would probably be just fine.
Yes the thread was something I myself started on a workshop mod because I suggested some balancing in a mod.
I read through rules and it seems fine. My point about this thread is I am trying to highlight the good things. Not the bad. In my opinion steam gave very good support, and these threads are rare. Most threads in similar topics are always about the bad.
If I gave you the quote you could search it and then the thread would be posted and so on. If it is alright by you I think its better if we do not focus so much on how and why, but the end results. Which is that steam support section can actually be very good and fair if you give them a shot. They are intended as the lifeline if power abuse happens, and for me they were just that. I wanted to give some hope to those who have had this happen to them.
Thankyou for bringing up that point. My initial take upon reading the OP post was that it was an issue with Pheanox - and like, if it was then why would OP bring it up again here knowing they could just end up as the ball in a game of forum-ban tennis? :-s
