About my recent ban and the excellent support steam gave me when I contacted them.
For those of you who were curious why I recently got a ban. I did receive a ban for a day (rimworld forum only) and it was both uncalled for and power-abuse. I contacted steam support about my ban and the moderator in question (I have no idea who it is and I do not care), because I was not happy with that moderator banning me and he also did not respond back to me when I messaged him. Steam support agreed with me, said they were sorry and added a note to disregard that ban for future occurrences.

To be honest when I got the ban I was disappointed at steam. But after how it resolved I have to give a lot of credit to steam support and the friendly guy who helped me out. He definitely is the right man for the job (support). Thank you steam support for being very just and taking the time to listen to me, and for also doing this very quickly.

Below is the reply from steam support. I erased the mans name since I believe its unnecessary to give out, and it might not be appreciated.

lol you are lucky most of the time they dont care and dont interrupt with the power abuse in forums. Check out mordhau mods for example, they ban people for not liking their game lmao.

Maybe you are right. But that's why I think its good to show the good as well, so that people are not scared to ask for help from the steam support section. Some people will surprise you. Its also good to see proof of that the steam support you contact for these things at times actually will help us out. I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out.

what did they ban you for?

I'm more interested in a clarification whether it was a global Steam moderator or our resident local moderator pheanox. I'm assuming the ban is from this thread, which is the only other mention I've found of it:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/3079873089712760831/

If so, it doesn't seem like it's fitting pheanox's modus operandi, as pheanox is (as far as I have observed) very good at both leaving the messages they moderate without deleting or editing them, and leave a note in the discussion mentioning who was banned, how long, and for what violation.

This makes me think it's probably a global moderator, and the fact that Steam stepped in I feel lends credence to that line of thinking, as I'm pretty sure there's nothing stopping a game's individual discussion section to have additional rules participants need to follow, and those rules being actively moderated. Of course it could be pheanox, and as the OP is formulated it seems to heavily imply such. That's why I'd like to see a clarification on that point.

Oh I have no idea who it was to be honest. The moderator who banned me only messaged me with the ban and the exact quote and "why" (what I did is not even breaking any the rules as far as I have read, it was in any way not bannable) and when I replied he ignored me. Sometimes you can not see the name of the moderator unless they reply to you, which he/she did not. Which is one large reason I went to steam support.

The thread you are referring to is NOT the thread that gave me the ban however. I was having a discussion at that time in that thread, while also having a discussion in a thread in the workshop.

I got banned exactly for,
-"Please refrain from attempting to bait users into non-constructive arguments."

This in itself is an odd reason since I see no mention of this in the rule section. But even so that's not even what I did.

Oh, so you got banned for something you said in a mod's comment or discussion section? That makes it a lot easier, as pheanox doesn't have the ability to moderate there, only global moderators do. :)

I've had generally good results in interactions with Steam/Valve Moderators when issues have arisen.

But, a bit of advice for the OP - It is not a good idea to discuss moderator actions/disciplinary measures in the forum where the actions took place. It really doesn't accomplish very much unless there's a truly abusive issue. And, in that case, it's better to have that discussion with Steam Support.

Though, discussion of Steam Forum rules "in general" would probably be just fine.

Yes the thread was something I myself started on a workshop mod because I suggested some balancing in a mod.

I read through rules and it seems fine. My point about this thread is I am trying to highlight the good things. Not the bad. In my opinion steam gave very good support, and these threads are rare. Most threads in similar topics are always about the bad.

If I gave you the quote you could search it and then the thread would be posted and so on. If it is alright by you I think its better if we do not focus so much on how and why, but the end results. Which is that steam support section can actually be very good and fair if you give them a shot. They are intended as the lifeline if power abuse happens, and for me they were just that. I wanted to give some hope to those who have had this happen to them.

Is it really worth tempting fate? I'm inclined to think maybe not.

Thankyou for bringing up that point. My initial take upon reading the OP post was that it was an issue with Pheanox - and like, if it was then why would OP bring it up again here knowing they could just end up as the ball in a game of forum-ban tennis? :-s
