How to deal with nimble raiders in first/second raid.
I had just started a game and set up a bunch of hallway traps. This is very very early game, first few days. Some solo raider shows up and just evades every single one of my traps and continues to murder one of my guys then, cause it takes so long to get him down...

Was that raider extremely lucky or does nimble really mean 100% evasion from traps? When I look it up on wiki it says 10% trap spring chance... WTF does that mean tho? Again, was that raider so lucky as to spring every single one of my traps on a 10% chance??

Not sure how many traps you managed to build within a few days, but 10% chance is pretty low, you know? Let's say you had 5 traps, the chance not to spring any of those is (chance not to spring)^(# of traps) -> 0.9^5=0.59, so roughly 59%

And even if it were 10 the chance would be close to 35%, so yeah, your raider was "lucky"/nimble

To add theoretical odds , technical a 10% chance doesnt add up cumulative , its 5x 10 each time, in other words , not activating a 10% chance 5 times in a row is likely to happen

Yeah, nobody said they add up cumulative. Check out this this calculator, 59% chance of not activating a trap is correct: https://www.omnicalculator.com/statistics/probability

I htink you mean the Embrasures mod, no? It adds walls with shooting slots, which could indeed help OP.

I like to shoot them in the face personally. Seems to work pretty well.

unless you have all your pawns at 15+ shooting... it takes 100 shots to kill 1 raider ><

the first raider shouldn't be that hard to kill, just gang up on them in melee if everyone is a terrible shot

@ schnappkatze , thats why i wrote to add theoretical odds . Practical it is more likely to happen for our observation , like the calculation u did , but thats because our samplesize is not endless as human beeing . I reefer them to practical odds , cause your calculation doesnt make sense from the logic how it works , but practical it does from our “experience“ .

Also as an add : that exact same observation bias is what screws ppl over at gambling tables :) and the Lottery

This just happened in my naked brutality game. Thought i was safe with the hallway traps i think i had 5 or 6 in there. 0 percent on light level and all that. My raider was not blessed with nimble tho. I died restarted and it happened again with a nimble raider and he too dodged them. Third restart again another without nimble gets through but only hits 1. So yea back to rich explorer

You just shoot them. Not even a joke; you draft pawns and engage the enemy in such a way that you have an advantage in combat.

except they miss 90% of their shots. Gota love ppl who cheat their shooting up with mods ;)

It doesn't matter what your shooting skill is, the accuracy floor is high enough to kill the first few raids with the starting weapons reliably.

dont use any combat altering mods , and didnt experienced a sequence of 9/10 or 90/ 100 shots missing on a regular base , that it is the most common outcome ( most common for me is a range from 4/10-7/10 by a shooting skill from 3-10 )

but i played only 250 hours

You're a weird fellow, in one post, you talk like the 200+ mod proselytizers, then an hour later you talk like a vanilla purist but with a twist of painful memories of some early fight gone wrong imprinted into your soul. Anyway if you don't trust your colony shooters just give them a stone club and be done with it.
