Storage
It's been awhile since played and with 2 DLCs I havent tried I figure would kick tires of the original first. That said while I love this game, I can't believe that after 2 DLCs there still isnt any storage options. This was what I loved about DF, Gnomoria, and a few others and not sure if its super hard to code, but I really would have rather had this than ideology or royalty. Its annoying to have to build a huge shelter when starting so stuff doesnt decay away , and usually have storage up before bedrooms.

Do you mean something like "Chests?"

Shelves = A Size Two-Square "Chest"

I can't recall the specific decay changes, but "storage" really isn't that big of a deal until mid/late game. Then, it's only a real issue if you're doing extremely well or have had issues trying to get rid of old clothing, sell off junk, hoarding stuff... :)

Early game, the biggest issue is the labor spent hauling items to hastily created storage zones before everything else is stabilized and you can more finely tune those. (IMO)

What do you mean? I've played DF and the storage in Rimworld is almost identical, no?

No you can build containers in DF, you cant in RW, except for mods. I am not sure why this option was never implemented. DF you can make storage for almost anything, food, wine, clothing jewelry, etc.

Bins and pots, but things also generally don't stack as much in DF without them iirc. I don't think the relative amount of storage space I need is really different between the two games.

Yes, chests. I have to constantly build structures just to house resources. A chest next to crafter housing his resources or his product would be great. Building an 8x8 or larger covered area just to keep it safe is not as great.

The other day I lost a huge stack of hay because while I saw the spoilage factor was good, I wasn't paying attention to decay rate and it just all poofed. My lack of foresight, but making a barn structure when animals don't really use and sleep outside. I will say it its needed for eggs as well, but taking up room is storage allotment. Yes they can walk over it but looks messy.

The game has things like shelves which store items and prevent them from deteriorating, and nest boxes for eggs specifically.

I use Ogre Stack plus Deep Storage personally though, I've had enough of the warehouse game and limitations that imposes on base building. Spewing things out on the ground also causes issues with my need to organize things neatly.

Yeah used a couple of shelves, and egg boxes but lol that was another headache when they wouldnt use the box and just drop willy nilly. I had to make storage for them as well. Which then now I have to use for cooking and if times are rough , not sure if they will poach the boxes yet.

Yeah, the lack of storage drives me crazy (inordinately so). I use LWM’s deep storage, but my understanding is that it can cause performance problems.
