They are fine. Is it because they are close to the archotech structure?
I don't know how to enter dev mode, but the ground below it is Rough-hewn limestone
Go into Options, on the third column there is an option to turn on development mode. White buttons will appear at the top center of the screen, click on debug actions menu (should be fourth from the left), click on 'destroy' and destroy the two hydroponic basins, go back to debug actions menu, click on 'set terrain', click on 'soil'. Make a small patch of soil where the hydroponics used to be, set a growing zone over the soil, have your pawns plant something, do the plants get damaged?
go into the options menue, right side, there should be the option "development mode", activate that
now, on top of the screen, you have some small symbols, use the first coursor that looks like it points towards a cogwheal, upper left, type "set ter" as search and select the highlighted one and place soil where the hydroponics is.
now, click on the face mask on top to enter god mode, now, deconstruct your hydroponics (if you have already queued the command, deactive the command and deconstruct it again)
after that,m create a new growth zone
to late!
edit: I'm actually interested in knowing this, too.

It is pretty mean that it doesn't tell you, but I guess part of the lore is that archotech things give off radiation or something? Idk.
The -5 emanation has the same radius as the visual FX
