how in the hell to start a lantern festival?

Outside, no roofs in the area, and at night. I think that's about it for the unique ritual stuff. One second.

EDIT: Area must have a campfire or ritual spot, and be unroofed with no roofs within 25 cells. That's it.

I believe you also need wood, at least when I do mine i watch them go run and get wood to use for the lanterns. It also has to be during when your ritual is set (if it has a specific time). Not sure about the night thing .

Area must have a campfire or ritual spot, and be unroofed with no roofs within 25 cells. Or just have 25 unroofed cells within the area (which is left unspecified), the exact wording is a little open to interpretation.

Ah a ritual spot.... please forgive my miniscule brain haha. i was trying to start it at a lectern, holy symbol etc. thank you

That is exactly what my potato brain was trying to do, thank you for the reply and the save! my colonists were able to find an ancient complex nearby,.

I keep getting a message saying "You need (X) wood. You have (X-4) wood." Where X is the number of participants times 4. It changes when I add or subtract participants and how much wood I have has no bearing on the number. I have tons of wood.

This can happen when not all participants can reach the wood (zoning etc). It has been reported and responded to in a bug report.

Each pawn has to have 1 piece of wood to make their lantern, yeah.

I had to google this, because mine kept doing the same thing. I had my chef restricted to her room, the kitchen and my cafeteria.

So just undo any area restrictions and then you can start it.
