Question about Charity quests
Do these have a point if you don't have a charity precept? Like, the "refugees in need" quest could wind up with them paying you back (if they don't betray you). But so far, I've never gotten anything at all from one of the quests where the people who up, begging for supplies, silver, medicine, whatever.

They have no faction, so as far as I'm concerned, they are free slaves.

the real challenge is being nice in a world of chaos, mayhem and war. i just give them the stuff they need :D

Do they really not give you a random chance for anything good happening in return? That just seems like a design oversight... The again, people will just say 'It's for roleplay, it doesn't have to be balanced/have a reward'...

They do have a chance to send you a reward later, just like with helping refugees. I don't think it's worthwhile if you aren't charity precept though, they ask for a lot at higher wealth. The beggars themselves are gifted to you as free recruits/slaves by the event, I always go with the more immediate and obvious reward rather than taking a chance on getting something else unknown later.

I had one person send me a shield belt about a week after he left.

I've had it happen once, but I've only created one ideology with Charity and I only played it for an hour or two. The reward I got was useful, but probably random. It was worth way more than I gave them.

I never give to beggars in my current colony. If anything they annoy me for running through my rooms.

I can't recall what it was though, sadly.

What's even more dissapointing is that even with a charity presept you don't get any mood boon for helping people. it kinda sucks, that it only punishes you for not helping, but isn't giving any morale bonus when you are helping.

Are you playing with any mods? I know HAR has an error where fulfilling charitable requests doesn't give the mood bonuses/not fulfilling them doesn't give the mood penalties.

I was starting to think that might be mod related. Yes I am playing with a lot of mods. Never mind then. Hard to tell which might cause it. What does HAR stand for?

Humanoid Alien Races, I think.

so far each of these events have been "we need to buy our friend back from slavery". if these charity events are always that, I really want the option(mod or not) to go save them myself

That would be an interessting, more involving solution. maybe get both options to choose from and a reward or a new recruit when you do it yourself.

There are a lot of charity events that are not just the beggers. Housing fugitives, for example. In that case you get a week or so free labor, mood buffs, the chance that some may join you, and the chance that they may murder you in your sleep.
