Any ideas what this error is, and if its mod related.
Getting this error and today my screen is starting to flash for a fraction of a second when this fault hits the log. The game is still playable but the flashing is annoying.

Seems like your pawns are trying to haul something. Try deactivating any hauling mods you may have; Pick Up and Haul, Share the Load, etc.

I think it's before that, generating the actual hauling job where the game checks whether an item can be moved to a stockpile with a higher priority. It seems as if the error happens when the game tries to access the item's "Smeltable" property, so maybe some mod created an item where neither "smeltable" nor "non-smeltable" is set.

With a bit of deconstruction of various items built around the time I found it was the shelves I'd just build along with one or more articles of clothing, I haven't isolated which one or any special qualities it has that would do this, but its narrowed down quite a bit since I posted.

Thank you both.

I know there are more people having similar problems. If you manage to track down the conflicting mod, would you mind posting it?

The problem went away when I deleted one of my stockpile zones

I found a solution.
In my case I had dragons' descend mod installed but after transition to 1.3 I removed it.
It just happened that I got some dragonskin apparel lying around. It's material had been lost, so it was throwing that error all the time. To fix, remove all no-material items in your map.

Simply deleting stockpile zone worked for me

Necroing cause I googled for this error and found this thread. My colonists would sometimes just stand completely still and flash between two orders. It does seem to probably have something to do with some hauling mod and stockpiles, and/or some modded items.

I "fixed" it, by having a dumping stockpile that accepted everything.

My guess is, it has something to do with one of the hauling improvement mods, and the Fecal Sludge of Dubs Hygiene, because I had a dumping stockpile far away, intended exclusively for the Fecal Sludge, but for some reason it got never picked up. Setting that far away dumping stockpile to accept everything seems to have fixed the error and people hauling the fecal sludge away.

Today I met with the same problem.
It all started with screen flashes. And with them came the lags.
The solution was this: first I removed parts of the map through the "clear" command. I wanted to understand which part of the map had the same thing that caused the flash on the screen. I found a problematic place in the warehouse. After that, he began to remove several racks. At the end, I found one rack that only had clothes on it. After that, he successfully removed everything that was on it and the shelving itself too.

Currently having this issue and none of these fixes are working. The error still pops up even when my colonists are all idle.

Maybe it will help someone. My interface was disappearing and my pawns were refusing to move through a certain area of the map when the camera was pointed at it, as if there was an invisible wall there. I turned on the dev mode, selected the "Clear area (rect)" tool and simply highlighted the problematic area of the map with this tool. Problem solved.

restarting my game would take well over 15 minutes. I did some trial and error, and I have NO IDEA what's causing and it's driving me mad. However, the flashing stopped when i deleted/deconstructed the shelves that made up my main inventory, for some reason food/steel storage didn't cause the problem? (also if you dont wanna delete, forbidding items will temporarily solve the problem)
