Multiplayer 1.3 ?
Dear competent,
When exactly will we get a "multiplayer" game experience with our beloved Rimworld? Will we depend on mods every single time for their compatibility with the new versions and wait for their fixes to be able to play with our friends?

As far as I know Tynan and the current development team has no plans for any multiplayer experience in Rimworld. Maybe if you are lucky some crazy modder do something about it but the Core of the game is a Singleolayer Story building experience that has no multyplayer on it. Even if it happens Rimworld Shines for his combination of mechanicts and ramdoness with stories, not strategy or combat oriented really although you can do whatever you want i don´t see any too much multiplayer potential as other games that were singleplayer but then became multiplayer like Stardew Valley or 4x games.

TL;DR: nothing planed right now...
it would result in reworking the core programming of rimworld and it will most likly break all the mods, not for days or weeks after an update, but maybe for weeks to month, or even a year.

minecraft did it once (it had different code for single and multiplayer) and when they switched it to multiplayer code for both versions, mods were broken for ages, some mods never got released to the new version because of the problems

And with rimworld there would be massive issues with balance mods.

For example i use combat extended if i played with someone without it how would that work?

Would their game freeze due to the lack of the mod? Would i get to not being able to play cause hes using the vanilla defs?

And id get a ginormous advantage too cause bullets in ce are much more lethal than in vanilla not to mention mortars and other explosives too!

And thats just 1 mod now imagine like 100 mods minimum...

ofcourse, both sides would need to run the exact same mods, if there arn't the same mods, the client would get an error message and just not connect, similar if you were to load a save with different mods enabled (just without the button 'connect anyway')

Ludeon is or rather has been looking for a MP dev for a while. Thats not a confirmation that MP is coming but Ludeon isn't known for their annoucements like both dlcs have just been announced like the day before they drop so it is possible they are trying to work on multiplayer.

Yeah i guess ur right in that case (although it would be a coder s stupor induced nightmare id say)

Not to mention also being a pain for the players too!

I dont im on mobile where if i tried to do that all id see is unintelligible like lines with 5 letters at best.

Hey brothers,
Still no multiplayer... :(
I had a very good time playing RimWorld with friends but now we can't and I don't even want to play it alone after all the time I had fun with friends... :\
Any recent solutions ?

you do realize there is a multiplayer mod that works like a charm with 80% of the mods right?
