Fine Vegetarian Meal vs. Lavish Vegetarian Meal cost imbalance?
I noticed that Lavish Vegetarian Meals don't scale the same as normal Lavish meals do.

A standard Fine Meal costs .50 nutrition (.25 meat/animal products, .25 veggies). A Vegetarian Fine Meal costs .75 nutrition, a 50% increase. Okay, that's cool, that's the price of having a single-ingredient meal increase in quality.

But once you get to Lavish? A standard Lavish Meal costs 1.5 nutrition (.5 meat, .5 animal products, .5 veggies, a stack of ten of each for a typical meal). A Vegetarian Lavish Meal costs 2.5 nutrition. That's 50 typical raw ingredients to make a single meal. This is a 66% increase instead of the 50% increase that Fine meals had.

(As a note, this is the same for Carnivorous Meals, too.)

Yeah. Lavish is pretty inefficient since forever. It's always been like this. Keep fine meals for everyday and a keep a stack of lavish if you need a mood boost.

Lavish is something you give to pawns that you want to get over an addiction -35 or some sort of event that gives over -20 debuffs. Its like glitter medicine, you save it for a rainy day.

Yeah. Lavish meals have become my harvest celebration meals. I use the Deep Storage mod and so my kitchen has 6 food baskets in it, each with 750 fungus. When the harvest is done, that capacity typically overflows into my main storage area, in which case I have my chef whip up Vegetarian Lavish Meals x4 a good 4-5 times to let everyone in my colony enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Doesn't the description even state "most of the ingredients are wasted" in making a lavish meal? It's meant to be an expression of wealth - that you can afford to waste valuable food on making something look good without actually improving its quality.

Fine meals all the way, and keep a few lavishes back for emergencies (or for situations involving Royalty).
ZS Maeklos 2021 年 7 月 27 日 上午 10:36
Yeah. My issue and why I ask if it's an imbalance is that Vegetarian/Carnivorous Fine meals take 50% more resources than a normal Fine meal. Lavish specialty meals take 66% more resources than a normal Lavish meal.
RCMidas 2021 年 7 月 27 日 上午 10:38
Ah gotcha. Well, lavish meals are there to show off. Diet speciality lavish meals need more effort because you can't mix'n'match food types - you have to put in more work and use up more resources to get the same benefit. Useful if you have a limited stock of one kind of foodstuff but an excess of another, but not ideal for a long-term situation that doesn't need an Ideological dietary restriction.

For instance, in my last serious colony (pre-Ideology) I ended up with 196 hydroponic rice bays under sun lamps. They produced food so quickly that I actually ended up filling up my larder and I physically couldn't move any meat there to make non-simple meals. I had to burn most of it with molotovs and start over, plus rethink my planting strategy, otherwise I'd've kept producing stupid amounts of rice and completely screwed up my colony's diet.

Now had I done that post-Ideology, I could've funnelled a fair bit of that rice into resource-intensive vegetarian lavish meals for everyone.

Yeah. I was just unsure if the 50% -> 66% jump was intentional, or if it was a case where the devs changed one and forget to change the other.

I'd say its working as intended. The lavish gives +12 to mood boost. Where a fine meal only gives 5.

Thats the only reason I feel you'd use it is for the mood boost once in awhile. as far as nutrition goes its a waste.
Makeithappen 2021 年 7 月 27 日 上午 10:42
It might even help increase mood to get yourself an inspiration. So just depends how you want to use it.

And it reinforces the fact that making a special Carnivorous/Vegetarian Lavish Meal as opposed to a normal Lavish Meal is only useful for those who completely cannot eat meat/veggies due to Ideological reasons. For fungus munchers like my people, a little meat and eggs in with their fungus is just dandy, and costs a lot fewer resources for that +12 boost.

Fungus is a bit OP atm for starting out. It has a constant growth cycle that doesn't rely on the sun. And is not effected by rainy weather.

Yeah, especially since fungus (like insect meat for the precepts that love it) is additive. Your people get bonuses for having meals that include fungus, but having meals that have fungus and meat doesn't give them an "Ate Meat" debuff. So it's fantastic for producing normal (lower cost) Fine and Lavish Meals if you've got the other ingredients to meet the demand.

Ah yeah. I gave my tunneler ideology the cannibalism precept as acceptable and made sure my precepts for eating meat was okay as well. Which is good because i f'ed up my start and had to rely on hunting for a bit longer than I wanted.

I got real lucky on this play through. I got a bunch of chickens that joined me in my first year and then cows late in the year. Got two pigs but lost them both to frostbite and didnt have an enclosed barn on a cold snap. they lost all their legs before i realized farm animals need shelter during the winter.
But now I have 5 roosters and 10 hens and they just produced a lot of eggs and chicks. I get a lot of meat and meals out of that. with fungus I hardly go hunting now.

Considering the meals can be made regardless of religion, its the only way to get lavish meals if you only have one type of raw food, e.g. I had a ton of meat in my last playthrough cuz of manhunters but no veggies cuz of bad grow zones.
