Fine meals all the way, and keep a few lavishes back for emergencies (or for situations involving Royalty).
For instance, in my last serious colony (pre-Ideology) I ended up with 196 hydroponic rice bays under sun lamps. They produced food so quickly that I actually ended up filling up my larder and I physically couldn't move any meat there to make non-simple meals. I had to burn most of it with molotovs and start over, plus rethink my planting strategy, otherwise I'd've kept producing stupid amounts of rice and completely screwed up my colony's diet.
Now had I done that post-Ideology, I could've funnelled a fair bit of that rice into resource-intensive vegetarian lavish meals for everyone.
I'd say its working as intended. The lavish gives +12 to mood boost. Where a fine meal only gives 5.
Fungus is a bit OP atm for starting out. It has a constant growth cycle that doesn't rely on the sun. And is not effected by rainy weather.
Ah yeah. I gave my tunneler ideology the cannibalism precept as acceptable and made sure my precepts for eating meat was okay as well. Which is good because i f'ed up my start and had to rely on hunting for a bit longer than I wanted.
I got real lucky on this play through. I got a bunch of chickens that joined me in my first year and then cows late in the year. Got two pigs but lost them both to frostbite and didnt have an enclosed barn on a cold snap. they lost all their legs before i realized farm animals need shelter during the winter.
But now I have 5 roosters and 10 hens and they just produced a lot of eggs and chicks. I get a lot of meat and meals out of that. with fungus I hardly go hunting now.
