Let's you zoom out to see the whole map; at which point the enemies will appear as red dots. It doesn't include maddened animals for me (just raiders and stuff) but I think that's because turned a bunch of animal settings off in it.
Camera+ is indeed your best bet for a fix.
Depending on the terrain the red names are actually incredibly hard for me to spot as I have mild colour blindness.
I'd much prefer big indicators of some type on the edge of the screen that basically scream "thar be enemies this way!" like you often find in a lot of games.
I'll try Camera+ and see where it gets me.

This works great for me, I can make the enemy icons huge and bright and really easy to see!
