Immature Dryads just wanderin' about, doing nothing.
Right so I have two immature dryads (actually they keep getting killed off by raiders bc they don't go into the safe zone I have set up for animals) and they just wander around doing nothing. Not one has attempted cocooning. I put their beds right next to their tree... they never get full rested and just wander around getting killed.

what am I missing here?

As far as i know you need to link with the tree and select the dryad type to get anything out of them. The immature dryads do nothing (but i heard that they can be hunted for meat).

Are they animals? can you make a specific area they're confined too like you could previously before pens were introduced?

Yep, done and done. I selected the tanky type and one of my colonists is bonded to the tree and pruning it all the live-long day and nada. :-(

Yes, tried that. I have an inside 'safe zone' I put all my non-combat pets when raids occur and the dryads are having none of it, the daft wee buggers. They won't stay in the areas I tell them to.

Is your tree near a lot of buildings? click it and see if there are any red lines. perhaps that is preventing them

Pretty sure dryads try to stay close to their tree, or to their bonded pawn. They aren't exactly animals you can ranch in the traditional style.

The dryads follow allowed areas nearby their tree (about 12 tiles or so). The key here is near the tree, if your tree is outside of what you are protecting, then the dryads will get killed trying to protect their tree. On your og question, sounds like a bug. I will take your save and try to fix it if you'd like, cuz I get bored, but I don't have any fixes based on what you've said.

i have some of the defense ones and they have only helped vs raiders and fires. I would honestly start with the berry one. 4 of them each dropping 32 berries every other day justifies your colonist spending 6 hours a day on it. just get some walls around them so they dont die

I had the same problem... simply selecting a new caste doesn't begin the cocoon. The pawn who is linked to the tree needs to go up to the tree to do it. For some reason not everyone is doing it automatically and if they aren't changing click the pawn related to the tree and have them initiate the change on their tree

Thanks, going to give this a try. Fingers crossed.

Check the Work tab and make sure your pawn that tends the tree has the "Basic" job turned on. Otherwise when you select the Dryad Caste, your pawn will never actually walk over to the tree to make it happen.

Figured it out on accident by right clicking around the tree like a maniac and seeing the message that my tender "couldn't prioritize" the work because she wasn't assigned to it. Weird that it's not under Plant Cutting instead of Basic, but this fixed it and the immature dryads immediately cocooned.
